Arsenal have shaken off the clutches of Barcelona for Hector Bellerin and Juventus for Alexis Sanchez in recent weeks, but now we face the challenge of keeping hold of star defender Laurent Koscielny for next season, with the Gunners star being linked with a move to Bayern Munich!
Bayern Munich have had a long standing interest in Arsenal’s central defender Laurent Koscielny and the Frenchman has always been quick to reject interest from other clubs in the past. Koscielny has gone from rags to riches at Arsenal, growing from the unknown to one of the best centre backs in the league and despite now having entered his 30’s, Koscielny would certainly command quite a high price for his services.
Even though Arsenal have rejected Bayern’s approaches in the past and Koscielny has previously had no real interest in signing for the German side, he could this year have different considerations on his mind. Having reached 30, Koscielny is due one last long term contract of his professional career before age starts to take over his effect on the game and so if he is to secure a big money move away to one of Europe’s top clubs, then it may have to be sooner rather than later. Having spent six seasons at Arsenal perhaps he may want a new challenge.
However there’s a few things that I think Arsenal have in their favour. Firstly, Koscielny has been rumoured to be the player most likely to be named Arsenal’s new captain ahead of the upcoming season. Whether you agree with that or not, it is a hot topic for debate, however the captaincy offer would surely raise his commitment to Arsenal even higher than I believe it already is.
Secondly Bayern Munich are flourishing in top class defenders already and are in no shortage of centre backs that’s for sure. In central defence, Bayern already have Boateng, Badstuber and Benatia, although the latter has been linked with Arsenal, whilst also having already acquired Mats Hummels from Borussia Dortmund this summer. Therefore I don’t think there is exactly a lot of room for Koscielny to fit in and I certainly can’t see LoLo being a first team regular at Bayern with such names already in the side.
Personally I reckon Arsenal will be able to rebuff any approach from Bayern just like previous years, however if a high offer was to be made, how much would it take you to accept?
Hope he stays..wont blame him if he leaves though..Wenger plays Giroud as the main striker the whole season afterall.
I just don’t get it. At any other major club Giroud would have outstayed his welcome after the first season yet he is here after all these seasons.
I get the argument – Wenger tried many strikers. But in all these years he didn’t find one better than Giroud. That is a joke! Our defence isn’t weak anymore. The bias towards attach would destroy most teams and actually put enough points on the board to win the league if we had a good striker. However, instead the attacking bias leads to unfuitful attacks and then being countered off. So many games the defenders wouldn’t have been to blame if the attack had actually put us in front!!!!
Giroud isn’t/wasn’t the problem. The problem has been that we (Arsene) did not bother to get a solid option to compete with Giroud. The options we’ve given ourselves have all been really below average so far;
Park Chu Young – WTF?!
Bendtner – do I need to say anything here.
Sanogo – WTF?!
Akpom – the kid is stlll developing
Welbeck – unproven as a CF and injury-prone
Walcott – .unproven as a CF and injury-prone
Who does that?!!!!!!!! Well.. Arsenal did, and for more than 4 years.
Not to forget Podolski who always was our most deadliest attacker.
But he just wouldn’t run enough and he wasn’t even a true CF either.
Plus, Wenger didn’t give him much of a chance at it too.
Giroud would NOT have out stayed his welcome
They would NOT get rid of a decent backup cf/supersu b
He isnt thé 25 goals striker we need but even if we get one (and I hope we do( we should still keep giroud
We have no reason to sell, relax.
Koscielny is not gonna leave the project we are embarking on as a club at this time.
I think he will be offered a reasonable contract for a 30 year old world-class Arsenal defender. No problem there.
Can we give Man United the title already. I’m really unhappy we were not able to get Mhicky. The guy gets goals and assists. Ibrahimovic scores goals in every league he has played. Goals WIN you the league. On the other hand, Giroud, Ozil, Welbeck and Sanchez are hardly consistent in scoring goals. Cazorla has also stopped scoring for some reason. We need to a get world class striker for next season, otherwise we can bid the title goodbye already 🙁 🙁
Go back to your sound sleep everyone……… Let the media play their wonderful game
BAYERN AIN’T GETTING NO KOSCIELNY!
