Arsenal agree transfer fee for English centre-back

The football transfer rumours surrounding Arsenal seem to have gone a bit dry these last few days, with decisions waiting on the likes of Jamie Vardy and Henrik Mkhitaryan, dominating most of the Arsenal media. Therefore there is very little change in the transfer developments as we know. That is apart from Arsenal target Rob Holding.

Holding was linked with Arsenal almost immediately as the 2016/17 season came to a close. Many thought that the Bolton defender would be an easy signing for Arsene Wenger to wrap up. However it seems to be anything but that and Holding still hasn’t come any closer to signing for the Gunners.

The lack of development on this particular case leaves me to believe that it is nothing but another Arsenal transfer rumour. However the Daily Express has today reported that there has been some progress, in the potential signing of Holding. The report suggests that Bolton have agreed a provisional £1.5m transfer fee with Arsenal, who could sign the young Englishman when he agrees terms with the club.

This fee comes as a small shock since it was previously reported that Bolton had rejected a £2 million bid from Arsenal on a previous occasion. However things have worsened for Bolton, with relegation to League One as well as the need to raise additional funds.

Holding is rated as one of the most promising young defenders in English football and at 20 years old, he is the perfect age for Arsenal to develop him into a much better centre back.

With Chambers being rumoured to head out on loan this summer, it could create an opening for Holding, before he too should secure a loan move away in the coming seasons.

    1. Actually, to be more precise, Arsenal had a bid of £750,000 turned down for Rob Holding and it was claimed that Bolton valued the youngster at around £ 7 million lol ?
Apparently, Rob Holding (who was voted Bolton’s player of the year) demanded that he wanted to join Arsenal, Hence Bolton accepting the £1.5 million plus add on’s!

That must be some serious list , on his ‘add on’s’
If they agreed to that price? ?

      1. Imo, If Chambers goes on loan, sign Koulibaly..
And if Chambers stays(I will be happy)..buy the Holding and loan him away…

Or do you think Wenger will buy two defenders???
Don’t forget he said 3 players is what he thinks we need…
And we have bagged Xhaka, two to go…

I want us to sign sign two good forwards not and give Chambers more chance pls…our attack was a disappointment last season…
        Defence did okay

        1. Koulibaly would be a great signing!
What with Chambers getting loaned out and now talk of Mertesacker heading back to Hanover, we would assume that wenger is planning to sign two CB, but we know that Rob Holding is one of them, does that mean that wenger rates him better than Chambers? ? is he really that good? ?

What about Xhaka’s international team mate, Rodriguez?
he has been Consistent with his interest in coming to Arsenal.

The main problem with Wenger’s transfer business!
is that he is too Indecisive!.. and that’s a fact! According to one of his top scouts.

          Anyways,
Mkhitaryan to Arsenal is hotting up, the player is said to be very keen on coming to Arsenal,
£25 million was mentioned, but it wasn’t clear if that was his valuation or if that was what Wenger offered? ?

  1. Moanino have just completed the signing of Eric Bailly from villareal for £30mil

What a hell!…. That’s how much money big teams throw arnd for lesser stars

Mhkitaryan costs just 5mil more , even xhaka….tell me why established stars aren’t worth the money

Time ain’t on our side, for goodness sake, the Euros are almost ere…. Get somebody, GET A STRIKERrrrrrrrrr

    1. I know you’re getting nervous. But just calm down bro. Enjoy the Euro’s.

There is a high possibility that some big name players wouldn’t want to change clubs before such a big event. Also if its any solace, the Transfer Window officially opens on 1st July 😛

  2. He need’s time to settle in but sure he is not the answer for defense!!

Kalidou koulibaly is the CB we need, with a top striker but sure we wont get top Fw due to lack of availability and wenger wont spend 65 or 75m on a striker.. Atleast we must move for Michy Batshuayi or Vincent Janssen.
This is going to be interesting “just my personal view” TOM ROGIC!! As a striker.. why not?
he got good physic, great long short power n he is good finisher! we can change his position n try (just a try).. My personal verdict on vardy move “Not a player of our style” wish the gossip now directs towards Riyad Mahrez.
Bring in Akpom or Mavididi from academy.. I bet Mavididi will be amazing but akpom is like welbeck.
Debucy to leave n Jenkinsen to be given a chance, sergi gnabry the hidden gem will come back stronger!

Dragowski! low cost and a best young prospect! i view his as future Manuel neuer. sell woj n ospina! let Drago grow under Peter..

    cheers

  3. Does it really make sense to loan Chambers and bring in Holding????

Why not let Chambers get more playing time and buy the Koulibaly guy…

Except Holding is a top top CB that is better than Chambers which I doubt is the case…

    1. That would be saying something if Rob Holding makes the bench and The 16 million pound man Chambers gets loaned out!

I read that Mertesacker is keen on returning to Hanover, where he started his career.
It’s funny how some player’s act like a salmon fish… when their career is approaching its end.. They return to the place where it was born.

      1. Seriously, I don’t understand at all..
Anyway, maybe Chambers getting loaned is just rumours..
How can we send Chambers on loan and replace him with Holding, even if Mert is leaving which I also doubt,it doesn’t make sense at all…

        1. Hahaha ?
Since when have we made any sense of Wenger’s transfer business, or anything else in that matter?
Well.. Apart from all the players that he nearly signed! ?
Which obviously means that he bottles it, at the last possible moment. .. does that sound familiar? ? ?

      2. If a player starts at their local club and towards the end of their career they go back to that club they are effectively going home.

  4. I watched holding play alongside chambers in the recent toulon tournament, they definitely had an understanding and looked pretty good together.

  5. if he comes and proves himself, I don’t care whether he’s a 12 year old from darfur, case study:bellerin and debuchy…anywaiz we still need koulibaly!!! that guyz built like a tank…very good for an idiot like costa and IBRA…I’m scared of what he wld do 2 our defence…btw, no youth striker shld com to d first team this season…that is 1 position where we can’t afford to do a ‘test-run’…we have to get it ryt or next season is going to b toast…for this vardy deal, I hope he accepts at the end and Wenger flips him the middle finger by getting another striker…we r been made a fool of…can’t we get callieri from Boca Juniors and icardi from for inter…wldnt cost more than £50m for both, cuz im pretty sure the few top class strikers r worth more than that…
    higuain-£60m
    griezmann-£60m
    dybala-£60m
    lukaku-£55m

  6. I hope it’s true and we have him. Simply because I always want Arsenal to get their targets. I don’t like Morata’s scoring abilities so far, but I know people in the game will get things right more often than I would. And if he had benn our no1 target, I would want Wenger to get him.

  7. I don’t believe all this talk of us signing mhkytaryan…no reliable source has said somtn about it only unreliable sources quoting an even bugger unreliable source(the sun)…the German paper, bild, only said if Dortmund agree to sell there r numerous English clubs after him namely arsenal, ………
I just hope this Wenger silence pays of at the end…who knws, we might see a top class striker emerge from euros who we cld go after…

    1. Man United v Arsenal for Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Jan Aage Fjortoft has posted some huge news on his Twitter timeline on Thursday morning.

Mkhitaryan on his way out of BVB
27-year-old Armenian star Mkhitaryan could be available for a cut-price fee this summer given that he only has one year left on his current Dortmund contract.

Borussia have tried to lock down the playmaker to a new deal, but Mkhitaryan has baulked, refusing to agree any extension that doesn’t include a release clause.

Mourinho is up to his old tricks again!
Apparently, Utd are sniffing around our target,
But the good news is that Mkhitaryan is very fond of Arsenal, So as long as Wenger gets his cheque book out, we shouldn’t have any problems with Utd’s interest… Come on Wenger, Get it done!

      #Mkhitaryan is an Arsenal fan!

      1. My advice for you is to take this transfer rumours with a pinch of salt. Wenger is unpredictable and most times, he’s disappointed.

  8. At 1.5 million this sounds like a Wenger singing and might well be a risk worth taking. With the money we earn, 1.5 million, if the player doesn’t reach expected potential is nothing to a club as rich as we are.

Can anyone explain to me, and this is a legitimate question and not a Wenger bashing, what Chambers did wrong? He was signed for a whopping fee (was it 17 million), thrown in at the deep end early, and IMO showed great promise.

There is no doubt the he seems to be more of a CB than a right back but it seems Wenger has lost faith in him. Wenger even seemed to try him out as DM for last season. But one thing seems pretty sure to me and that is that Wenger lost interest in him. There were ample opportunities for Chambers to get minutes last season with injuries to our other CD but Wenger kept Chambers of the pitch. For a 17 million investment, and Chambers being at an age he should be learning on the pitch not only on the training ground, it seems odd Chambers is hardly mentioned when it comes to our need for CD depth.

    1. I can only assume that wenger doesn’t think he is physically strong enough or tuned/confident enough to play as regular as he should. And the only way to get a player better without risking our own defence is to loan him out. I’m not to sure on him being loaned out is true though but who knows what wengers thinking

      1. He appeared to cope quite well the first season when he was called upon.

Maybe Wenger doesn’t like his decision making or learning curve?

If her gets loaned out I hope it is to a strong side like Southampton or Everton or even Stoke. As long as gets regular games. No point sending him somewhere where he also doesn’t play regularly.

        1. I agree he did well it could be to get him uses to the cb position

I think he’d get regular playing time but I’d like to see him go to Spain or Germany on loan. English players don’t go abroad and its a shame
