So the Arsenal transfer rumour mill is in full swing and there have been many claims and counter claims, but most fans seem to think that we have real chances of bringing in the free agent Hector Herrera in the summer as our replacement for Aaron Ramsey. I know it is one of many possibilities, but is there any real chance of it happening?
The fact is that Herrera is a very talented player and as a free agent will command a massive wage and probably an incredible signing on fee as well. The Express today listed five possible destinations for the current Porto star. Here are a few snippets from the Express article…
With just six months now left to run on his Porto contract, Herrera will be available at no cost at the end of the season. And Arsenal chiefs Sven Mislintat and Raul Sanllehi seem to be interested in adding him to Emery’s squad as they face the prospect of losing Aaron Ramsey for nothing.
Wolves are also interested in bringing Herrera to the Premier League when he quits Porto. And their recent captures of Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho prove they mean business.
Roma have apparently attempted to put a deal in place for Herrera this month. The Tijuana-born ace is said to have been offered a four-year contract by the Serie A giants.
Roma’s rivals Inter Milan have cast their eye towards Herrera as he approaches the end of his deal. New Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta is looking for players he can snap up on free transfers.
Two Spanish clubs are keen on Herrera too, with Sevilla and Atletico Madrid lining him up for a switch.
The 28-year-old’s decision on his future will supposedly be determined by who makes him the best salary offer. So Arsenal will likely have to be prepared to spend big to entice him to head to north London.
So, even if we just forget about the possible competition, and there will probably be a lot more than that for a free agent of this quality, but the point I want to make is that he is supposed to be a replacement for Ramsey. We have been led to believe that we have taken Ramsey’s contract off the table because we won’t pay his wage demands and probably a signing on fee too. If we won’t pay that for someone who knows Arsenal inside out and wants to stay, why would we pay it for someone who has never even played in the Premier League, and may take time to adapt?
Am I making sense? Can you see that there is zero chance of this deal happening?
