Ever since Arsene Wenger took over as the manager of Arsenal Football Club almost two decades ago now, there has been a strong French element to the Gunners squad and that is no different today. And you don’t need me to tell you that France and it´s people are having a tough time of it right now.
Even though it was just our centre forward Olivier Giroud and centre back Laurent Koscielny involved in the nightmare in Paris with the France national team, there are many more at the club, including young Gunners like Jeff Reine-Adelaide as well as first team players Coquelin, Debuchy and Flamini.
So the boss is well aware that this is a difficult time for them and that is why his words on the Arsenal website as the team prepares for the Premier League away clash with West Brom are designed to take the pressure off the team.
Because of Wenger and our many French players over the years we are a popular team in France and so the boss suggested that today’s game was a good opportunity to bring some happiness to people while also being a good chance for the players to focus on something other than the terror attacks.
He said, “It is difficult but it’s a good opportunity to focus on something else and to get it out of your mind a little bit. For the players it’s also a way to get rid of some of the emotions, to do what they can do and to give pleasure to people by focusing on something else.”
So it looks like Arsenal at least will try to play with freedom and make this an entertaining game of football.
