Arsenal claimed to be ‘confident’ in bid to beat PSG to experienced midielder

Paris Saint-Germain are said to be closing on a deal to sign Idrissa Gueye from Everton before the close of the current transfer window, but reports are coming in to claim that we are ‘confident’ of stealing a march on our rivals.

The Senegal international has been a consistent performer on the Merseyside since joining the club from Aston Villa in 2016, and could be set for a big-money move.

The Gunners have said all month that we have no money to make any permanent signings, which gives you serious doubts where any supposed links are made, but the report claims that we will agree to pay the asking price of £40 Million in installments, the first of which will be paid in the summer.

Gueye missed Tuesday’s 1-0 win at Huddersfield but Everton boss Marco Silva insisted that was due to injury.

“He had a minor problem with his groin,” Silva said.

“We tried to be honest with all of you and with our fans. After the match I tried to find out if something new has happened because I expected your question and there’s nothing new.

“He has a minor problem with his groin. No new offers and hopefully he can continue with us.

“I don’t know about a new offer or not. Nobody has told me. We were in the hotel last night preparing for the game, fully focused on the match.

“I know the market is open until January 31, it’s always tough for us, but about the new offer, £30million, nothing came true.

“I asked 10 minutes ago if there was something new, but there is not.”

As much as I could understand us beating PSG to Gueye’s signature considering the likelihood of regular football at either club, but the wages we would be willing to offer would surely not match up if Emery’s former side were seriously interested.

Regardless of the above, and the supposed payment ‘in installments’, I’m struggling to believe that there is much proof behind the links, although I do think he would be a good addition to our midfield.

Would Gueye be a regular in our starting XI? Would he snub PSG to join us?
