Arsenal Closer to signing Jonny Evans as West Brom source replacement

Although Arsene Wenger point blank refused to talk about any Arsenal transfer rumours, including Jonny Evans, after we beat Chelsea on Wednesday, but the fact is that everyone knows the Gunners are desperately in need of a new experienced centre-back and the West Brom captain is probably the best available at the moment with EPL experience.

Arsenal were always expected to be favourites to sign Evans, but this morning the Gunners are now as low as 2/5 on get our man as it has been revealed that the Baggies have agreed a deal to land the Zamalek defender Ali Gabr on loan with a view to a permanent deal in the summer if he lives up to expectations.

That leaves the path clear for interested Arsenal to land their man, with the Baggies reportedly valuing Evans at around £23 million, which will give Alan Pardew funds to strengthen his attacking options. West Brom are currently second bottom in the League, and it has been reported that if they do go down to the Championship, then Evans has a clause in his contract that will allow him to leave for just £3m, so it makes perfect sense for Pardew to cash in on the centre-back this month.

I am sure Arsenal will try and get him as cheap as possible, but as we are in an hour of need, I don’t think that £23 million is too much to ask. Do you?
