Arsenal closing in on first big summer signing? (plus video)

With Arsenal we usually expect them to make immediate announcements on new arrivals as soon as transfer window opens, or facing long drawn out sagas and haggling that normally stretch on until the very last days of the window. Well let’s hope all that has changed now under the new regime and we have already identified our prime targets and are making them happen quickly.

One possibility is the Argentine centre-back Walter Kannemann, and according to the Mirror this morning, we are close to getting a decision from his club. They reported….
Arsenal are reportedly close to signing defender Walter Kannemann in a £10.5million deal.

According to CalcioMercato , the Gunners have tabled a bid for the Gremio defender and are looking to bring him from Brazil to the Premier League.

The 28-year-old is viewed as one of South America’s top defenders and having won five caps for Argentina he could be given his big break in European football.

With Emery looking to bolster his side on a budget, Kannemann could represent a shrewd piece of business if he can adapt to the Premier League.

The Gunners are said to be battling with Sampdoria for Kannemann’s signature in a bid to strengthen their much-criticised defence.

They also end the article with this bit of hopeful news….
Gremio are said to be considering the proposal from Arsenal with a view to making an official response in the coming days.

Now it is a well-known fact that our most important need right now is a solid centre-back so we can sell Mustafi. So perhaps this would be a great signing if he has lots of time to integrate over the summer.

  1. Another small CB like Mustafi that is hopefully ball-playing defender

I guess towering CB like Ibrahima Konate, Issa Diop and Kurt Zouma are too expensive for the sixth richest football club in the world:

    1. Fabio Cannavaro.
He was one of the best CB to have played, picking up the Ballon d’Or in 2006, a big task for a CB who was not even 5ft 8.

How about Kolo Toure who has been part of two invincible teams… 5ft 8.

We should ignore player quality and go for a big brute right?
People used to say that the best CF are big and tall… Then along came Messi.

Being tall is more of a benefit for basketball but in football, the players agility matters more than being an extra inch or two in height. The ability to jump… Tall people do not have some magic wand to make them the best jumpers. The ability to twist and turn, get a yard of space… These are not height dependent.

  2. Is this guy really good to solve our defensive woes, my hunch tells me he might not solve it and I kinda feel he might struggle in epl. I will just hope my hunch is wrong about him. Keeping my fingers crossed.

    1. I want Watford to win Sue as local and also it means Man U would have to play Euro qualifiers in July ?

        1. U can say that again; an average player in did. What’s your definition of “an average player” by d way? U call Guedozy who is now ranked d 2nd best youth in Europe and whose price as put as 75 ml as average?.

          1. Don’t believe everything you read in the tabloids mate
If he was worth 75 mil he would have been sold the minute the transfer market opened .
Good squad player but not anything special, still young so might improve

          2. he is 2nd best in terms of price. For some reason he is worth more than young players like Havertz.

  3. Hopefully one top player coming in thats a winger. The rest (CB, midfielder a fullback) prob retreads or bargin bin.

I believe this £10 million rumor more than the Greek for £31 million.

I have more hope in our youth coming good than club with transfer business. Impact players out of our price range, and still no one to replace Sven.

Amateurish actions; behaving more like a mid table club treading water. Emery has huge task next year; little support from owner, Laca, Auba, and Leno only true quality, and counting more on tactics than impactful transfers.

Kronke fc has much to prove.

  4. Seen YouTube videos of him. He seem like a mustafi/ sokratis combined. Too rash in making challenges and goes to ground easily. Arsenal should look for better options. Don’t wanna have a CB who could be the one with the worst disciplinary action in the league

  5. Underwhelming at first thought; never heard of the guy before. That said, if this is how much Arsenal want to spend to address one of our glaring weaknesses, then it is a clear indication of how little ambition our owner has to take us back to just being contenders. We are now simply a top six club, and seem content with our new EL status.

    1. ….. this “not heard about him, a cheap buy etc” and so, he is not deserving of what to be called ‘ good ‘ is baffling. Did anyone of U know about the Ajax players a yr or two ago before they announced themselves in the big stage of the chams league? Now clubs are knocking heads over them. Tomorrow Walters goes over to Ajax or Inter, next season and hit it big there, U guys would B d first to hit the club’s mgt with ur rantings .

      1. Reminds me of Alvarez that Wenger was chasing back in 2007 or so. He went to Inter instead, and was underwhelming! The chap in question is 28, and prior to this very few had even heard of him!
