Arsenal could lose out on long term target as competition grows

Arsenal could be set to miss out on Kieran Tierney with increased interest from Italian giants Napoli, according to the Telegraph.

The 22-year-old defender has been linked with a move to the Emirates all summer but hesitation over his transfer fee from the Gunners has opened up the door for Napoli to move in and snatch the left-back from under their noses.

The Serie A runners up are set to offload their own left-back Mario Rui which creates space for Tierney as well as raising the necessary funds to table a bid for the Scottish international.

The Telegraph is not your run of the mill tabloid and does not generally go in for much gossip, so for them to highlight Napoli’s interest and call into question Arsenal’s chances of signing the Celtic star is significant.

According to the player’s agent Allan Preston, no club has yet matched Celtic’s valuation and the Hoops manager Neil Lennon has confirmed that Arsenal has not tabled a second bid.

This hesitation from Arsenal is frustrating, Tierney is a highly talented individual and is worth the £25 Million that Celtic are demanding for him. It would create an immense sense of disappointment if Napoli is allowed to sneak in at the eleventh hour simply because they agreed to pay what Celtic are asking.

This coming week could be crucial in this transfer saga and there is every chance that it will come to a conclusion one way or another.
