Arsenal eye another keeper – But Cech refusing to budge

The latest Arsenal transfer rumours are saying that the Gunners are chasing yet another goalkeeper despite Bernd Leno’s arrival this month. It is expected that David Ospina will be going to Besiktas and Emiliano Martinez and Matt Macey are waiting in the wings. The Gunners have also extended the contract of the 23 year-old deyan Iliev just this month as well, so why are we looking for yet another Number One?

It could be because he is an absolute giant, as the Mirror is reporting this morning….

Gillingham are facing a fight to hang onto giant Czech keeper Tomas Holy.

The shot-stopper, who stands 6ft 9in tall, ended up at the League One club last year following his release by Sparta Prague in his homeland.

He became a near-ever present, and now the Gills are bracing themselves for a late bid after the phone started ringing earlier this month.

Gillingham are prepared to allow understudy Tom Hadler to step into Holy’s shoes, with a string of clubs including Premier League sides Arsenal, Crystal Palace, West Ham and Everton having registered interest in the last few weeks.

Well at least he could be helped to settle in by his fellow countryman Petr Cech, who is adamant he will be seeing out the last year of his contract with Arsenal. “At the start I said I want to fight for my place in this team, I will honour my contract unless the club tells me to go,” Cech said.

“I’m performing every day, I’m trying to training hard and [to be] ready when my opportunities come.

“Obviously, I want to show the manager that I can be the starting goalkeeper.”

Cech played great for 45 minutes against Atletico the other day, but it was Leno and Martinez who got the nod against PSG. But seriously, how many keepers do Arsenal need????

  1. I think it’s just another bullshit and uninteresting rumor

Let’s discuss about the new winger

Bailey, Dembele, Traore, Lozano, El Haddadi or anyone that can score loads of goals as an RW and willing to join Arsenal

    1. I agree with the first part of your comment, but i dont think we are getting a winger this summer

    2. Remember when I said Torreira will join us this week?

We are in talks with Barca for Dembele. If we want to sign him it will cost us around £75m-£85m.Thankfully,Guedes has rejected us even though we had a pre-agreement with PSG.

      1. i believe you said in the next couple of hours and turned out to be 2 days later. This was when it was common knowledge he was joining anyway. Just give up Kev.

  2. Given his age it might make a bit of sense if he has the potential to become a star . I mean he is not goin to be the number 1 any time soon and wouldn’t really cost much and we all know Leno might not make it…so it’s not all that meaningless just not as important as getting a winger.

  3. With rumours of Ramsey possibly leaving, I think our first eleven when everyone is fit will look like this

    Aubameyang Lacazette Ozil
    Torreira Mkhitaryan Xhaka
    Monreal Koscielny Mustafi Bellerin
    Cech

    Not bad at all

NB Leno, Sokratis, Lichtsteiner and Guendouzi are still untested for Arsenal so I haven’t included them

    1. Ozil sucks as a winger

Emery has tried Mkhitaryan and Nelson on the right side, so I believe Mkhitaryan would start there

    1. Nothing admirable about being a bully in any way!
I would rather have a hard working CM than bullies who would cry at the 1st real challenge they get.

  4. Leno may not make it in the EPL, luckily we didn’t spend the fee Liverpool did on Leno 😛
Please people, remember that Leno didn’t have a good season last season and he has bags of errors in him.

If Leno can improve then he could be equal or better than other top teams GK but now, who really believes we have a TOP TOP GK on our hands for this season?

Even if Leno does progress and become reliable, we still have a couple younger GKs who may fall to the wayside while sitting on the bench, could be worth selling as they are a good age and our youth development hasn’t been as bad as our 1st team development. (Well, up till Emery arrival)

In some ways it does feel a bit silly looking for another GK, if we are not planning to keep all the ones we got at the board level then the board will look for replacements which do not cost the club as much or improve the club if is does cost funds overall.

  5. I don’t think it’s a priority
Cech wasn’t helped by the defense last season esp central defenders and Bellerin. Also, we didn’t have Torreira and Guendouzi.
We wont have 3 @ the back this season. We will have 4. We need to wait and see how Sokratis, Mavrapanos and Lichtsteiner fair

So there should hopefully be less goals going in our net. Emery is slowly fixing the problems

  6. I thought we were going for Switzerland’s gk!!! Who’d argue with Cech anyway now he’s all beefed up?!!

  7. I hope Kev you are right about Dembele. Although for that amount, I would rather we go for Leon Bailley who I think had better end product and tailor made for Epl

    1. I like Bailey too.
Looks like Nzonzi is off to Roma. We and Roma were supposedly against each other for Bailey. So who knows. We def need a quality winger

    2. Have you really checked his stats on goals scored before you made that end product claim. He had 8 goals in 56 games for Genk and 9 in 38 for Bayern Leverkusen. l wouldn’t call that a better end product and won’t take him for that but i will take him because i think he will present a better value for money than Dembele.

  8. I don’t buy the idea of playing Laca and Auba together, city rotated Aguero and Jesus for the whole season, and they both delivered..
We all know Auba and Laca thrive well at the CF position, why then destabilize the set up to accommodate a big names?
we need or Coman or bailey on the wings..that’s just the clear fact.
I’m not particularly interested in the highest goal scorer race,I’ll take Auba and laca both sharing 50goals…25 each than making one our goal machine and turning the other to bench dead Wood.
We fans scream about squad depth, but when the opportunity presents itself,we see fans with series of formation forcing all our big names on the pitch..
This backfired when Wenger forced ramsey, ozil wilshere, carzola and Arterta into the starting 11, and that birthed the beginning on No Natural wingers in the team.
Bale, isco, kovacic, benzema etc sits on Madrid’s bench..
look at city’s bench, do we want to have craps and youths alone on bench?
why can’t we mix youthful talented players e.g AMN, Rowe,Goudonzi with Average players..Welbeck,iwobi, El neny, and big name players like Mhicky,Laca and Cech as our squad or bench players?
It is high time fans changed that mentality, and let it sink that Arsenal is a big footballing club.
