Arsenal eye another keeper – But Cech refusing to budge

The latest Arsenal transfer rumours are saying that the Gunners are chasing yet another goalkeeper despite Bernd Leno’s arrival this month. It is expected that David Ospina will be going to Besiktas and Emiliano Martinez and Matt Macey are waiting in the wings. The Gunners have also extended the contract of the 23 year-old deyan Iliev just this month as well, so why are we looking for yet another Number One?

It could be because he is an absolute giant, as the Mirror is reporting this morning….

Gillingham are facing a fight to hang onto giant Czech keeper Tomas Holy.

The shot-stopper, who stands 6ft 9in tall, ended up at the League One club last year following his release by Sparta Prague in his homeland.

He became a near-ever present, and now the Gills are bracing themselves for a late bid after the phone started ringing earlier this month.

Gillingham are prepared to allow understudy Tom Hadler to step into Holy’s shoes, with a string of clubs including Premier League sides Arsenal, Crystal Palace, West Ham and Everton having registered interest in the last few weeks.

Well at least he could be helped to settle in by his fellow countryman Petr Cech, who is adamant he will be seeing out the last year of his contract with Arsenal. “At the start I said I want to fight for my place in this team, I will honour my contract unless the club tells me to go,” Cech said.

“I’m performing every day, I’m trying to training hard and [to be] ready when my opportunities come.

“Obviously, I want to show the manager that I can be the starting goalkeeper.”

Cech played great for 45 minutes against Atletico the other day, but it was Leno and Martinez who got the nod against PSG. But seriously, how many keepers do Arsenal need????
