Arsenal getting serious in their pursuit of another Ajax star

The media continues to report the ongoing Arsenal interest in the Ajax forward David Neres. The Daily Mail is reporting that we sent scouts to Turin on Tuesday night to watch the 22-year-old in action in the 2-1 Champions League win over Juventus.

We are not the only club that is keeping an eye on the young Brazilian, Manchester United, Liverpool and Everton are also said to be keen on signing the young winger. Neres is the second Ajax player we have been actively monitoring alongside his teammate Nicolas Tagliafico.

Neither player would come cheap and in the case of Neres, his club have already turned down a £37.5million offer from Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande.

Neres has been instrumental in the Dutch clubs progress to the Champions League semi-finals and as each game passes his value rises.

German side Borussia Dortmund were interested but they have been made aware that the player is set on a move to the Premier League.

Ajax has already come to the conclusion that their exciting young team will be broken up, Frankie de Jong is Barcelona bound with captain Matthijs de Ligt very likely to follow and they will almost certainly agree to the sale of Neres but only at the right price.

We are obviously keen, otherwise we would not have sent our scouts in person. The competition will be fierce but if we qualify for Champions League football next season that will put us in a great position to persuade Neres to join us in North London.

  1. Watched Juve v Ajax and thought Ajax played with a lot of style! Now I pray they will do the Spuds!!!

As for Neres I have to say that there was nothing that got me excited… In fact he looks like a light player with no game personality! Sorry to say but I would look elsewhere for reinforcement.

Believe maybe little expensive but saw something in Insigne tonight…quick, direct, tough with desire to win. If price right I believe he could do well under Emery in place of Mkhikitaryan.

Don’t forget we also have some talent coming through and we shouldn’t block their path but leave the door open for someone to come through and shine!

    1. Go ahead for Nares and even more.New Signings always bring change in a club.

    2. The Italian Messi is highly skillful, but he is gonna be 28 years old this year and Arsenal need young guns to press hard in the front line

I just saw Neres’ YouTube highlights that showed his best moments and maybe you are right about him. If that’s the case, Arsenal have to look for another left-footed RW

      1. Agree that we need to look for someone with max 26 years!

Ideally someone around 22-23 as not to buy “finished” article and associated inflated transfer fees and blow our budget.

Personally would prioritise a CD to tighten our defence and improve ball retention from the back…

I would also like to see an upgrade on Xhaka as question his positioning, occasional lose/dangerous pass and weak in 50-50s.

Only after securing above would I look at another winger… We have also option to give Welbeck another contract.

    3. Nkunku of PSG is a better player than any winger linked with Arsenal. His is versatile, agressive, workholic and his price is cheap. Also Emre knows him very well.

    4. Agree. I don’t rate Neres that highly. I’d rather attempt to sign Pepe, or even stay domestic and get Ryan Fraser or Zaha. If we are looking for a Ramsey replacement, Van De Beek wouldn’t be a bad shout. Him and Tagliafico are the two Ajax players we should be looking at. (De Ligit we just don’t have a chance of getting.)

  2. Arsenal will once again beat Valencia home and away….. And I don’t see Chelsea surviving Frankfurt …Frankfurt is a very good team.. And I prefer facing Frankfurt in a one off final than in both legs..that’s how good they are
