Arsenal have not put in a bid for Jonny Evans

The West Brom manager Alan Pardew made it clear before the January transfer window that Jonny Evans would be available, with his club having rejected bids from Arsenal and Man City during the summer, but he revealed yesterday that the Baggies have received no bids at all for the centre-back.

Pardew said: ‘We’ve had a couple of enquiries about what we’d be looking for. The answer has been, “We’re not going to tell you. Make a bid and we’ll gauge”.

‘If they ring up late Tuesday they’re probably not going to get the response they want. If they ring today, tomorrow, they’ll get a nicer response.’

He also admitted that he wouldn’t be expecting a price like the amount Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk. ‘Every criteria is different, age, experience, his contract,’ Pardew continued. ‘Jonny’s got 18 months left so it makes him more vulnerable.

‘Having said that, centre halves are in their prime from 29-34, when they really know their game, and their fitness levels are strong. That’s what Jonny is in.’

So if Arsenal haven’t yet made a bid with just three days left of the transfer window then I think we can safely assume we are not interested in signing Evans. Not with the speed that Arsenal do transfers!
