Arsenal injury update and team news ahead of Sheff Weds game

There was a massive furore when Arsene Wenger used David Ospina in Arsenal’s must-win Champions League tie against Olympiakos, and our French manager hinted that our Number 33 may have needed a rest to deflect criticism, but Wenger has no hesitation in putting Cech as the first name on the teamsheet for the Capitol One Cup game tomorrow night.

It may be a bit cynical of me to suggest that David Ospina’s “shoulder injury” should happily come in the month that Arsenal have to face Bayern Munich home and away, and he is expected to recover after the next international break, but in the meantime Wenge has made it clear that Cech will face Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow as the Gunners aim for a spot in the Quarter-Finals.

In the pre-game injury update Wenger said: “There are no new problems from Saturday, Per Mertesacker is available again after illness. Nobody else is coming back. Arteta will not be fit. Ramsey, Wilshere, Welbeck and Rosicky of course are all out too.

“Ospina is still out too, so Cech will certainly play.”

It is pretty certain that Mertesacker will play after missing out on Saturday, but who else makes up the back line is unlikely to be known until tomorrow. If Wenger intends to give his reserves another chance after disposing of Tottenham in the last round, I could see Chambers playing alongside Per, with Gibbs and Debuchy on the flanks.

And of course, Matthieu Flamini at centre-forward!

      1. I love these type games because we may get a sneak peak at a future AFC great. People think there is no pressure but when you are on a run it’s hugely important to keep the feel good triumphs going. Also people might say nothing much to win but everything to lose ..ie your dignity.

    1. just cuz u are called “mick the gooner” doesn’t mean we are playing for a Mickey mouse cup……. “WINNER TAKES ALL”…..don’t u forget that!

  1. Hope we get to see bielik in action. I think iwobi deserves a game after the pre season performances. Can see the line up being something along the lines of:
    Cech
    Deb Mert cham Gibbs
    KB/coq flamini
    Cam caz iwobi/ox
    Walcott

I think we should avoid using ozil and definitely not Sanchez.
Hopefully we keep the winning run going! Excited to watch this one. COYG

    1. I think Kamara is more likely to start than Bielek and wouldn’t mind seeing a couple of the boys who crashed out of the U17 World Cup get some time. Please no Coquelin.

  2. Sanchez def shud have a rest. It’s def not the most important game of our season but we wanna keep the winning run going. So rest ozil Sanchez kos coq monreal and bellerin. Then pick the best 11 available. Should be enough to beat sheff wed. Coyg and foys.

  3. Cech, Debuchy, BFG, Chambers, Gibbs. Flamini, Belik, Arteta, Campbell/Ox, Iwobi, Walcott….Maybe we can play Arteta in the No. 10 (playmaker) role since Ramsey, Wilshere and Rosicky are still out. Woulf love to rest Ozil,Santi,Sanchez,Kos in this game. I hope anyone that plays turns up. We know its the capital one cup but we want to keep winning. Arsenal All The Way!

    1. Arteta is still out I think. Wouldn’t mind seeing Ox at 10. That’s where Wenger keeps saying he will end up and let’s be honest, he ain’t lighting it up on the wing with any consistency.

      1. How long are Arteta and Rosicky out for, pity because these two can contribute and esp worrying if we need them to. Rosicky position might be well solidified but an injury to Coq would be huge just as fans predicted. That’s why I’m eager to get a closer look at Kamara Sheaf and Beilik.

  4. Am keen on this game, I want to see how some of the young guns performs. Secretly hoping another le coq appears from the youth team. Up Up Gunners We keep our canons fireing!!!

  5. Listen Baby Please.

Rest players that need rest like Alexis
However, I Still want us to win

The League Cup may not be the FA Cup, PL or CL BUT we should still want to win. Trust me, if we win the tournament the Players will celebrate. We should try to win every tournament we enter

  6. No more “Listen Baby Please”

Just say what you have to say, please no more catchphrases…..
