Insider claims Arsenal are ‘disappointed’ with South American’s failed move

Charles Watts claims that Arsenal are really disappointed that Fiorentina opted against triggering their option to buy Lucas Torreira following an impressive loan spell.

The Uruguayan midfielder has spent the last two years on loan, enjoying a La Liga winning campaign with Atletico Madrid before returning to Serie A to impress for La Viola, and it was a surprise when they opted against meeting his pre-agreed fee to sign him on a permanent basis.

He has now returned to north London but isn’t expected to stay beyond the current window, and Watts claims that we are unhappy with the way it played out.

“Lucas Torreira – Arsenal are so disappointed with how that one turned out, over what happened with Fiorentina,” Watts told listeners to his podcast.

“They thought that one was pretty much a given that was going to happen.

“Suddenly for it to not happen, then you’re left with the player, it’s just another thing to add to the workload, trying to find him another club.

“You’d think it wouldn’t be difficult because he had such a good year in Italy last season, that other Italian clubs will be sniffing around but we’ll see on that one.”

Fiorentina are known for being difficult to negotiate with, but after three Player of the Month awards for Fiorentina in 2022 alone you would imagine that the fee would have been proven to be more than fair.

I’m sure we will receive offers for his signature, but other clubs may also try for loans with an option to buy which is a growing trend with many clubs struggling financially, but with just one year remaining on his contract, that isn’t really an option.

Could Torreira get another chance under Mikel Arteta this season?

  1. It seems last resort for him to play in our colours again but never say never.

He didn’t settle in England (don’t blame him – I live in S Africa now…) and foreign clubs are broke – or pretending to be.

    Tricky one.

But Maitland -Niles should find a British club – possibly Brentford or Forest.

  2. But then you have Doomers blaming the manager, club and owners for our players not being attractive to other club..
Even for £18 million for Torreira is too much for his admirers like Fiorentina.. They would rather pass on the deal instead of paying such a small amount for a player like Torreira.

How poor were the players Arteta was left with by his predecessors?

    1. How poor can a player be to win player of the month 3 times in Florence. Whether you like it or not the truth is Florentina saw what the price we put in both Matteo and Mavropanus option to buy , said no and offer us 6m. We mismanaged our players and become desperate to get rid of so we are offer derisory price and also desperate in getting players and over paid for them Torreria wasn’t a bad player when the club got him and he isn’t a bad player still.

  3. Imagine the unmitigated gall of anyone expecting that another team would ever stump up 15+M for a player who hasn’t had a sniff at this club for years…simply clueless…it’s called reading the room

    1. Did’nt he live up to that price tag while on loan? Incase your memory is failing you a player signed on a loan to buy option is judged by his performance while on loan with the buying team not the selling team.

  4. Unfortunately the trend of cancelling contracts / letting player go for free is going to continue until we clear out the player that no longer have a future here. Pepe is the main problem. He’s on big wages and no club is gonna be foolish enough to buy him permanently. Even a loan is difficult. Bellerin problem should’ve never happened as any competent organization would’ve replaced him ages ago. Hopefully we are getting smarter at managing player contracts. Who knows, the Eddie wages makes the questionable.

  5. Look at the team players out and sold one, they have the ability to beat our current team
