Arsenal interest in Brazilian DM confirmed

Although Matthieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta have both returned from injury, they are both getting long in the teeth and are unlikely to be able to play all season, and most Arsenal fans are still clamouring for a younger stronger defensive midfielder to be able to step in if (god forbid) anthing untoward happens to Francis Coquelin.

It may be possible that our prayers could be answered in January as yesterday, as the agent Joao Santos has reported that the Gunners have been sending scouts to look at his client Jorginho, who is currently playing in Serie A with Napoli. Santos was reported as saying: “One of the head scouts of Arsenal is well-known, and so I know he was at Marassi for the Napoli match.

“Right now we’re more thinking about Jorginho at Napoli than the transfer market.

“I’m in Brazil, and when I’m back we can discuss my client’s contract.

“The priority is getting a call-up for the national team, then there’s the January transfer market.

“If Napoli receive an irrefutable offer for Jorginho in January then it’s normal that we’d make our assessments.”

The 23 year-old was born in Brazil but his family moved to Italy when he was young so he has dual nationality and is elegible to play for either country but he has already opted to play for his adopted country. This is only his second season at Napoli but has helped them win the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa already.

Could Jorginho be one of Arsenal targets for January?
