Arsenal interest in La Liga defender starting to gain momentum

A couple of days ago we published an article naming four defenders that Arsenal have on their radar and at least one of them is now being named by the Spanish media as a player Arsenal want to sign.

According to Marca, Getafe’s Djene Dakonam is now at the top of Unai Emery’s shopping list and is available at a fee that is within our transfer budget.

The Togo international reportedly has a buy out clause of €35 Million, a figure that some will consider a bargain considering the excellent season the 27-year-old has had with his club.

Getafe president, Angel Torres, has admitted that Premier League clubs tabled offers for the defender back in the summer of 2018, and while no club has been mentioned it is likely that we were one of those that did make a bid, but it was Dakonam himself that decided to do one more year in Spain.

The defenders reportedly wanted by us in addition to Dakonam are Leicester City’s Harry Maguire, Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld and Chelsea’s Kurt Zouma, however, it now does appear to be Dakonam that is by far the likeliest to sign for us.

When you get media in different European countries naming the same player including a well-recognised news outlet where the player plies his trade then you have to think that this is one rumour that is gaining momentum.

    1. We already have Torreira, Guendouzi and Chambers as DMs

This guy might be a good CB in La Liga, but he is too small for that position in EPL

He is also not skilled enough to be an RB/ RWB. For that position, Arsenal need a fullback that can play well as a winger, such as Ricardo Pereira

        1. He topped Arsenal’s interception and tackle stats when he was a regular first team player at the beginning of this season. But his rank dropped to the 4th best at the club since Torreira started more often than him:

I agree that he doesn’t look like a specialist DM though, because he is good in making trhough balls. Chambers would most likely compete with Torreira for the DM position next season

      1. We need an upgrade for those players you just mentioned and we need good players who can take on Barcelona

  1. I think we have enough numbers at cb, untill we ship out some, i doubt we are buying more. Fullbacks are a neccesity, and explosive wingers

  2. O.T so Pochetino is now saying they focused to be above us in d past 5 years and now that they achieved it they want Tittles let me laugh

    1. They have THE PROUD TITLE OF OWNING THE WORLDS MOST EXPENSIVE TOILET BOWL AT £1B.
And it hasn’t even got a lid.

  3. A good defender but at 5ft 10″ does not have the aerial power needed for the Premier League.

  4. I’d prefer Mario Hermoso to be honest if we are going to grab from Spain. But Konate is the number 1 CB on the board in my mind.
