Arsenal interest in La Liga defender starting to gain momentum

A couple of days ago we published an article naming four defenders that Arsenal have on their radar and at least one of them is now being named by the Spanish media as a player Arsenal want to sign.

According to Marca, Getafe’s Djene Dakonam is now at the top of Unai Emery’s shopping list and is available at a fee that is within our transfer budget.

The Togo international reportedly has a buy out clause of €35 Million, a figure that some will consider a bargain considering the excellent season the 27-year-old has had with his club.

Getafe president, Angel Torres, has admitted that Premier League clubs tabled offers for the defender back in the summer of 2018, and while no club has been mentioned it is likely that we were one of those that did make a bid, but it was Dakonam himself that decided to do one more year in Spain.

The defenders reportedly wanted by us in addition to Dakonam are Leicester City’s Harry Maguire, Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld and Chelsea’s Kurt Zouma, however, it now does appear to be Dakonam that is by far the likeliest to sign for us.

When you get media in different European countries naming the same player including a well-recognised news outlet where the player plies his trade then you have to think that this is one rumour that is gaining momentum.
