Arsenal Moving For Another Barcelona Winger?

Following reports of Arsene Wenger’s intention to sell Arsenal’s fringe strikers like Joel Campbell, Yaya Sanogo and Lukas Podolski, there have been a lot of rumours popping up linking Arsenal with top-quality wide forwards across Europe. The Metro is reporting today that Arsenal will be looking to move for Barcelona’s Pedro Rodriguez, who Wenger has been watching for quite some time now.

The Spanish international, who has seen very limited first-team opportunities since the arrival of Luis Suarez, has made no secret of his discontent, hinting several times that he will be leaving the Camp Nou at the end of the season. The report also goes on to claim that the Barcelona manager Luis Enrique is willing to listen to offers of around £20 million for the versatile winger.

In addition to the fact that Arsenal are losing two wide forwards in Campbell and Podolski, there is also a very real possibility that Theo Walcott may leave as well, so I believe that there is good amount of credibility to this story. Since both the club and the player seem to have a mutual agreement in regards to the player’s future, it will certainly be a very straight-forward deal to bring him to the Emirates.

Considering the immense success of Alexis Sanchez in the Premier League, I believe that Pedro will also be a hit should he move to the Emirates. The 27-year-old Spaniard has an arsenal of very effective wing-play which includes great pace on the ball, pinpoint crossing, good physical strength and lethal finishing as well. Needless to mention, he will find it very easy to adapt to Arsenal’s passing game as he will be making the move from Barcelona.

For me, Pedro Rodriguez will be a perfect fit for Arsenal and I’d love to see him at the Emirates. However, if Theo decides to leave, we will need more reinforcements out wide. Looking at the market now, Dortmund’s Marco Reus and Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling both seem to be looking for a new club and I do believe Wenger should pounce if the situation requires him to.

  1. why not?
we could loan out gnabry, maybe take in wellington silva or move him on along with campbell, and podolski. maybe if theo leaves we should get pedro? or get pedro anyhow? not sure.

what do you guys think of adrian ramos coming in to compete w OG? he’s quick, good finisher and an impressive header of the ball? thoughts?

    1. Unless Adrian Ramos was available for a bargain price, I’d pass on him due to his age. I do admit he does have a good goalscoring record in the Bundesliga (besides this year with Dortmund).

    2. Ramos is the type of signing I feel we made the 2006-2012 years that were ‘mid-tier’ the manager felt he could get more out of. NOW I don’t think he’s the profile/quality that’s needed to take us forward, he’s the epitome of “depth” which is the worst thing a club can buy for.

No keep Ramos, if you want to give Giroud a ST to fight it out with then you’ve got to look at players like Benteke, Lacazette, Sturridge? (be a laugh to try that), Aubameyang. New chapter is underway at Arsenal, time to bin the band-aid/half-arsed signings and get a hold of some quality to fight it out for the first 11.

  2. Since Sanchez was a hit you think Pedro will be a hit? That is your reasoning behind bringing in Pedro?

    1. Pedro is a great player, just like Sanchez.
Pedro got tossed to the side for another at Barca, just like Sanchez.
Pedro right now is prob itching for some playing time, just like Sanchez.
Therefore Pedro might need to move to a different team to do so, just like Sanchez.

      1. That’s not what the author said. And that reasoning is weak too. Pedro hasn’t been a ‘great’ player for a while he was amazing for like 1-2 seasons. Pedro plays LW/RW, Sanchez plays LW,RW,ST,CF. Sanchez has proven he can adapt, he’s played in chile, Italy, Spain, and now England and has been immense in every league. Pedro has played on 1 team in the Spanish league who is also the best team and dominates every game.

        Your talking apples and oranges

        1. Welp that tends to happen when one glances through an article. And in all honesty, I’m actually satisfied with with the wingers we have including Theo.

          1. I’m with you too my point is I don’t get this obsession with Pedro people read 1 rumor and all of a sudden he’s perfect for us and would take us to the next level

  3. For 15-20 million in today’s market I would welcome Pedro to compete for a place, even though I think there are better options out there.

  4. Sell Sanogo 🙂
    Who would buy Sanogo?
    The team that would
buy Diaby I guess ROTFL 🙂
Might be hard to get rid of players because
only Flamini and Diaby are out of contract.

    1. Flamini is not out of contract, like Theo, podolski and campbell he has another year left. The only players out of contract this summer are arteta, rosicky and diaby. There is also some reserves like ajayi. Galindo, Lipman and vickers.

Personally i think 17 of the squad are already assured of a place in the 25 next season, but quite a few, of those are entering their last year and wenger might be tempted to cash in. Walcott is one of those, where a decent bid might just be too tempting to turn down. However. I think the ball is more in Walcott’s court than arsenal’s. He will surely want to make it into the England squad for france 2016 and has to decide between a high profile move this summer or simply sit out his deal and then he can really put himself in the window next summer as a free agent.

I think for everyone’s benefit a swap deal involving sterling and walcott could be the answer.

  5. Pedro could be another
    Sanchez or Girvinho.
    We have Theo Ox
    and Gnabry. So only if
we sell Theo could we afford to buy Pedro.
And even then its more likely we
would get Stirling as he is much
    younger and home grown.

  6. Pedro is superb, let’s get that straight before I see the “nah he’s average” nonsense. He struggle for gametime because of Suarez/Messi/Neymar, that’s the only reason.

Is he a good option for Arsenal? I’d say absolutely as a direct replacement in the squad for Poldi. Pedro is crazy two-footed, someone who can hug the touchline AND play tippy-tappy (*glances at Theo*), is a lethal finisher, and has an unreal engine/work ethic. Turning 28 in July he’s reaching his peak and that would be in perfect harmony with our team finally reaching title-challenging level. VERY GOOD OPTION.

Who else is genuinely out there we could buy as a winger/false forward? Fekir (21), Dybala (21), Draxler (21), Sterling (20), Reus (25), Depay (21), Felipe Anderson (21). I’m not convinced any aside from Sterling and Reus could come in and provide the ammunition immediately to help a title challenge next season, but both of them are more expensive than Pedro. Yes there’s merits to buying younger, but with Gnabry waiting in the wings maybe a wiser head is needed than a potential star.

    1. Agree 100% CC – Pedro pedigree is strong so stats this season might be a great guide on why he wants out rather than a reason not to buy! Is it possible to play for that club for that long and not be of real quality?

I am perhaps Reus greatest admirer but if bringing him in is not possible as I feel may be the case Pedro is certainly IMO, a step up into the real class we aspire to. Better than Theo or anyone else mentioned recently.

  7. Its still left to be seen! So lets see what the summer brings, but there are other better options out there!

  8. Lethal finishing???
Looked at his stats. This season Pedro has scored 5 goals from 32 League matches.

We can do better than him.

    1. Be more ignorant if you can. He’s been used as a sub ALL season, he’s made 13 starts and 19 sub appearances in la liga with 5 goals, 5 assists. Would love to know the kind of return you expect of a player watching the game every week.

You stick to your wikipedia judgement and I’ll stick to the fact I’ve watched him play the last 5 years.

      1. Draxler 21 from Schalke .
Tried to get him 2 years ago
        so we have a connection.
He has been injured some this
season so would come in under the radar.
Schalke did not make the ECL,
we can get him for 15 mill.
Sell Podolski 10 mill replacing left winger
        with left winger makes sense.
        Wise investment in the future.

        1. Draxler for 15mil?? lol would love to know why you think Schalke would dream of selling for that…

          1. There is nothing to suggest that Pedro would be an “excellent” player for us 3 years ago he was world class and amazing and he’s never looked the same since. He’s 28, hasn’t played a great deal of football the past 2 seasons, played in la liga all his life on a team that dominates every game but you think he’ll just move to a different country on a brand new team and perform? I just don’t see it, like you said I think there’s better options for the money.

            1. His pedigree suggests he’d be excellent, he’s been a double digit scorer every season since 2009 but he’s more of a creative winger than simply his goals output. He’s never quite nailed a place at Barca besides his 2 year spell where he was sensational, but to think he’s lost it simply because better players have been brought in and played ahead of him is just not doing him any justice.

There’s no guarantee any overseas player will come straight in and boss it, same argument can be put at the feet of Marco Reus. But Pedro gets minutes for Barca and Spain which is no mean feat. He’s class and would add a lot to the starting 11 without question imo.

  9. Podolski out – Griezmann in
Campbell out (harsh) – Fekir in
    Flamini out – Sneiderlin in
    Sanogo out – Lacazette in

    1. Yes seems likely.

      Griezmann – 35mil
      Fekir – 22mil
      Schneiderlin – 25mil
      Lacazette – 30mil

  10. Illoris, Varane, Kondagaia, Griezmann, Lacetta

    or

    Neuer, Hummels, Reus, Gundogan, Draxler

    or

    Casillas, Ramos, Martinez, Isco, Jesse

Get them and we be good for next season……

    1. Your spelling of footballers’ names reminds me of the fake names on the Pro Evo games, where we had to play as North London FC.

Couldn’t think of a German defensive midfielder?

We’d be lucky to sign Pedro, the only better winger who might be on the move is Reus- but we might have to break our transfer record for him – still got hope for Theo though anyway.

  11. Barca has a transfer ban and they WILL NOT sell anyone, especially Pedro, their best cover for front 3. Let us drop it. I doubt we can sell all of these forwards, Poldi will go. Campbell/Yaya might stay on. Ryo will go. But that is it, Diaby/Flaminy should go to create space and wage for new players. With 4 players sold, we can have a winger/forward and a CDM, top quality players and spend 70-80m

    1. Seems right…though selling Walcott is and should be an option …. I think if we can get two from lacazette dybala drexler kondogbia schneiderlin and marseille DM all of whom at least seem to be on the market we would have a higher quality top 15 which is the key in the end…though left side of defence is still not convincing to me
