Arsenal must not take their foot off the gas against Watford

Arsenal’s last two League games were brilliant wins over Leicester City and Man United, with the return of their fast free-flowing attacking style which is practically impossible to defend against. We were creating just as many chances at the beginning of the season, but now Alexis and Walcott are taking advantage of the situation at last.

One player who has not been able to play so far this season is Danny Welbeck, but he knows exactly what Arsenal need to do to keep climbing up the table. He said: “We’ve just got to keep on improving and – as a squad going into games – we need to make sure that we’re right mentally for every single match, not just selective fixtures,”

“Sides in the lower half are beating teams in the top half and that just shows the competition throughout the whole of the Premier League.

“There’s not one game where you can take your foot off the gas and you’ve just got to be prepared mentally, physically and tactically for every single match.

“With the teams throughout the whole of the Premier League nowadays, it’s going to be a difficult match whoever you’re playing so you’ve got to be focused on the job and getting the three points. You’ve got to have that mentality if you want to succeed.”

When we faced Leicester they were unbeaten this season, and Man United were three points above us in the table, but the clear warning is that this week we face newly promoted Watford, and there is the danger of being complacent and thinking we will win easily.

This may be an even bigger test of our consistency and we need to grab the chance with both hands, and build extra confidence ahead of our crucial Champions League meeting with Bayern Munich….
