Arsenal need SUCCESS to keep Cazorla away from Atletico

You have probably heard the worrying suggestion that the Arsenal and Spain international star midfielder Santi Cazorla is wanted back in La Liga by the current Spanish champions Atletico Madrid. But even though the little magician has recently turned 30-years old, I believe that he is in his prime and that Arsene Wenger must do everything in his power to convince Cazorla to stick with Arsenal.

It might not be easy though, despite Santi having signed a contract extension less than a year ago. The lure of Spain, La Liga and a successful club like Atletico will be strong but the Gunners do have a few things to tempt the Spanish maestro with ourselves.

Another FA cup winners trophy this season would certainly be a big help, as would a first triumph in the Champions League of course, although a decent run would be a bonus as well. So the next month or so in those tournaments could be hugely important in Wenger’s hope of keeping Cazorla. A top four finish is also vital, as Atletico will almost certainly be among Europe’s elite again next year even if their title challenge has faltered a bit.

The biggest thing for me in keeping our player is for him to know that he will play regular games, something that might concern him with the form of Mesut Ozil since the German’s return from injury. But Wenger playing both of them on Sunday and with great effect will help ease the midfielder’s mind on that subject.

Also, Cazorla should be aware that he may struggle to get as many opportunities at Atletico, who have players like Arda Turan, Koke, Raul Garcia, Gabi and Griezmann already competing for places. So as long as Wenger keeps playing him, Arsenal should be able to fight off interest in Cazorla. And we all want that to happen don’t we?

  1. Cazorla is in the great for but he is also 30 and not getting any younger. Maybe it is the right time to sell him. The offer has to be really good, that money can be used to get another top defensive midfielder like Gognalons, Bender, Schneiderlin. For the CAM position this could be Draxler, Praet or Fekir.

I will miss his dribbles and his two footedness though. But we will not be strengthening an EPL club and Cazorla can retire in Spain.

    1. The 3 cam’s you just mentioned are GARBAGE compared to our little Spanish wizard. Glad your not in charge of transfers!

  2. Sell our second best player of the season? Absolutely no! I would love to see Cazorla continue for Arsenal like Rosicky has.
