Arsenal on the verge of signing new left-back?

Despite Arsene Wenger’s future being uncertain beyond the end of the season, it seems as though Arsenal are already planning for the next campaign with new recruits seemingly high on the agenda. According to a report from Goal, Arsenal are on the verge of signing Schalke left-back Sead Kolasinac.

With the futures of both Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs up in the air, it seems as though the North London club are eyeing up a quick replacement in the form of the 23-year-old Bosnian, who has stalled on contract talks at the Veltins-Arena, which means the Gunners can land him on a free transfer in the summer.

Personally, I believe this story has a great deal of credibility to it, especially considering that the player will be a free agent at the end of the season and the continuing uncertainty on whether the Gunners’ established left-backs, Monreal and Gibbs, will extend their stay at the Emirates. In addition, the player himself is looking to take the next step in his career and will be tempted at the chance to grow under Arsene Wenger, who looks like he’ll stay for another two years.

Kolasinac, thankfully, is revered for his defensive abilities and is known to be an agile defender who is strong in tackle and on the ball. In addition, the player is also versatile and has played at central defence and defensive midfield for Schalke, another trait that will be very handy for the Gunners squad at the moment. Although it is advisable to take every Arsenal transfer story with a pinch of salt, I wouldn’t be very surprised to see him at the Emirates next season.
