Arsenal player ratings from Swansea stuffing – Iwobi MOTM

I was probably going to give the young Arsenal and Nigeria forward the nod for our Man of the Match from the comfortable away win over Swansea City anyway, but when I heard that Alex Iwobi was not going to get the goal glory for either of his deflected strikes it made my mind up, as the first was definitely on target and his all-round performance was excellent.

Cech 7 – Commanding display. Key saves at crucial times. Clean sheet.

Gabriel 7 – Lacks pace and attacking threat of Bellerin but did try and good all-round game.

Mustafi 7 – Decent display but not without a few mistakes.

Koscielny 8.5 – Dominant. 9 clearances, 4 interceptions, 93% passing accuracy, never a penalty.

Monreal 7 – Stood up to some rough treatment to put in solid performance.

Xhaka 8 – Very good. Highest touches and passing accuracy. Defended well, set tempo and a few good shots.

Ramsey 7.5 – Some good stuff from the Welshman but still looks a touch rusty.

Ozil 8.5 – Hugely influential and just makes Arsenal better. Up for it today.

Iwobi 9 – Maybe his best game. Involved in all our creative play and should have been given the 1st goal. Impact.

Alexis 8.5 – Well taken goal and usual great display. Hold the histrionics though mate.

Giroud 8 – Worked tirelessly and scored again.

subs:
Chamberlain 7 – Looked sharp and had positive effect.

Welbeck & Lucas Perez 6 – Not much time but did okay.

Bob.

  1. Good ratings , a lil generous , but we won 4 nil and it’s bn a long time since we looked dominant . Players earned their wages really .

Not that am negative, I still think we can start games a lil better . I just feel like if we start slow against good teams we shall not comeback
Bournemouth, Preston , Swansea our first 40 mins are a lil too slow . I hope we improve on that

That’s said am happy with the result and performance

    1. I was thinking after playing a Southampton game, and similar with one or two others, I was thinking of the times when Arsenal could go up and down a few gears whenever it were needed. I noticed one time with Sou, that we started at a high tempo, things were looking good, but then Sou controlled the tempo by bringing it right down and letting us feel comfortable, as be began to patiently pass at a slower tempo, not long later Sou drove their tempo back up again.

We struggled to get back to that mentality we had in beginning, it went from an explosive match to us being at six’s and sevens. I think some managers realise that when Arsenal are at a high tempo we are capable of beating most anyone and are extremely difficult to play against, when at a slow tempo we show little fight and are soft. Some managers (Mourinho) have ways of trying to adjust our tempo to suit. The old Arsenal could go up a few gears at a whim, this team however, when they go down a gear or two, they find it very difficult going back up. (When things look a little too late in the day, they can get it sometimes,, but often it does be a little too late)

  2. Ratings are a bit high Bob! But I like the positivity. On that note, I owe an apology to Ramsey and Xhaka for being quite critical of them yesterday. I watched the game back this morning and both performed much better than I thought on my dodgy stream. And even more importantly, they played well together.

In particular, Xhaka in the second half made some key interceptions and kept the ball moving. He isn’t yet in Fabregas’ class but watch the way his head pivots around before receiving the ball and it is reminiscent of our former captain. Still not convinced by the duo but looking forward to seeing what form they can put together in the next two or three games before Chelsea.

  3. I am much worried about Sanchez’s behavior situation when he is substituted. The manager has a reason for doing the substitution, why is the guy feeling bad that much. It is not good for such a professional player and he should be told seriously to improve this situation. He might aspire to score more goals for his personal success but he should also think of the team’s success, which is the most important issue to be a champion.
