Arsenal player ratings from WBA win – Alexis MOTM

Well that was pretty easy to pick which of the Arsenal players performed best in our reasonably easy 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion last night, as not only did Alexis Sanchez score both of the goals but his bustling drive gave a much needed lift to the flat atmosphere inside the ground and offered some inspiration to the Arsenal fans that did come as well as his team mates.

Cech 7 – Solid and commanding after his slip last weekend.

Bellerin 7.5 – Buccaneering game showed just why he made the PFA team of the year.

Mertesacker 7 – Never troubled and gave our defence good leadership and a calm feel.

Koscielny 7.5 – Very good as usual from the Frenchman who even got forward at times.

Monreal 6.5 – Steady but nothing special.

Elneny 6.5 – Lots of work, decent game, poor attempt to win penalty.

Ramsey 7.5 – Very effective game with great energy and a hand in both goals.

Alexis 8.5 – A class apart and two super goals.

Ozil 7 – Looked tired or affected by atmosphere but still some quality stuff.

Iwobi 7 – Slow start but grew into game.

Giroud 6.5 – Put himself about and came close to scoring late on but struggled to get into game early on.

Subs: 6
Coquelin steady, Campbell and Walcott nearly got our third straight away.

  1. Sorry I think Elneny deserves a high rating 7 – 7.5..he broke up alot of WBA attack got stuck in alot , put pressure on WBA players which caused them to give the ball away alot and miss place passes…He attacked, he defended…I think next season he will be a steady regular player for us…

  2. Yea…Alexis was man of the match…

Sunderland next. A tricky game against a team fighting relegation. I remember the game last season against them towards the end of the season. They drew the game @ the Emirates and were delighted to escape relegation. We play at stadium of light and trust mi’ I won’t be predicting this game as for mi’ it makes little or no sense since we ain’t fighting for the league anymore…

Imagine a headline like this ‘Wenger steps down as Arsenal coach’… Or ‘Wenger resigns as Arsenal coach’…

  3. Arsenal Player ratings.
    Ospina. Kept clean sheet.
Gibbs. No one got past him.
Flamini No yellow or red card.
Rosicky. Did not misplace even one pass.
    Arteta. Never missed a tackle.
Wellbeck. Did not miss any chances.
Chamberlain. Never got caught in possession.
Gabriel. Never beaten in the air.
Chambers. Never got caught out of position.
    Cazorla. Untouchable.

    1. LOL, even at the bench Flamini’s biggest achievement in a match is not getting carded.

  4. Till Campbell came on there didn’t seem to be any real threat on their goal in the second half. As I stated Arsenal should be destroying this team as they are no more than a survivalist club. No dis to WBA

  5. Bad ratings. Apart from the Sanchez goals it was almost the same thing vs Palace minus WBA not scoring.

    1. Yes. But the WBA “not scoring” part WAS the entire difference. And I cannot help but notice the Mert/Kos pairing again worked out very well.

From now on Mert and Kos should be rated as a pairing. Like it or not the Mert/Kos pairing simply works better the Gabriel/Kos pairing.

  6. I think the ratings are about fair, but Id do a few a little differently. After Alexis, Ramsey stood out, I’d have given him a 7.5. Elneny I would give 7, and for me Iwobi would be about a 6, or 6.5 pushing it. Great seeing Alexis play like this again, just need Ozil to bag an assist v sun, and then hopefully get them nailed down to a contract.
