Arsenal ready to accept transfer bid for star defender?

After a slightly less than impressive debut season for Arsenal, well half season as he joined us in the January transfer window, Nacho Monreal has really come good. Even with Kieran Gibbs fit and in form last season, the Spaniard had cemented his status as the first choice of Arsene Wenger.

And as Monreal is only 29-years old and in good physical condition, you would think that his place with the Gunners was as safe as houses. So I can only think that the player himself is keen on a return to Spain, if the Arsenal transfer rumours reported by Squawka.com and Metro are true that is.

One claims that Arsenal are in talks with a young Ghanaian left back called Abdul Rahman Baba who has just completed a great season in the Bundesliga with Augsburg. The other, and earlier, one says that Arsenal are ready for a bid of €8 million from Athletic Bilbao for Monreal, which is in the Basque country of Spain where the defender was born.

As I say, if they are correct then they must be connected and that could mean that Wenger is ready to let our best left back leave, which seems like a strange decision to me as we are as close to challenging for the title as we have been in a decade or so. What do you make of this Gooners?

    1. I’m not sure you quite grasp the term “dream”…
Surely a dream lineup would look along the lines of:

      Cech
      Debuchy Gab Kos Monreal
      Vidal Rambo
      Reus Ozil Alexis
      Giroud

Subs: Szcz, Per, Bellerin, Jack, Santi, Ox, Theo

        1. There’s dreaming for the best window, then there’s fantasy….why not target Ronaldo if you’re gonna get unrealistic.

Cech-Vidal-Reus would be a dream window, but more importantly an attainable one.

  1. Perhaps Monreal is homesick. And Wenger does not like to keep players who want to leave.

Or perhaps this is all transfer rumor NONSENSE,

    1. My mum said she heard from a friend that there was an article on caughtoffside saying Monreal was leaving… Nonsense? Pfft! no way!

  2. v need monreal after his last year improvement…he was our one of the best player…plus v cannot trust gibbs as he is too injury prone…baba is too young its just like that aurier rumour v had last year

  3. Personally I doubt it. Monreal’s seemed a happy member in the squad playing regularly. Still has quite a few years left in him and don’t see why he’d be looking to leave, or we’d be looking to replace him for such a small fee when his performances have been quality.

On a side note Carvalho has been utterly dominant in the u21 tournament. Made the German and England midfield look like ants… Not suggesting that is indicative of him being primed to set the premier league alight.. But still, for a rumoured target of ours.. Impressive.

  4. Why would Monreal leave after working so hard to push Gibbs off the 1st choice left back. I like his offensive ability, his work rate, and most of all his defending has improved. He still needs to do better on the defensive end and communicating with Koscielny in the box but im sure he will do better next season.

Gibbs had a horror show vs Reading when he had the chance to claim his spot back, it seems he has gone the other way, his defending has worsened. Hopefully he gets his confidence back during preseason.

  5. There is no doubt room for improvement at left back …. 8m for Monreal would be though to turn down …and plenty of upgrades available … But still in rumour world and not excited about Czech which is as much a response to idiot tabloid pundits as dealing with teams real weaknesses

  6. We’re being linked with virtually everyone who has signed professional terms for a big club in the last decade at the moment, so it stands to reason that some of our own players will be linked with moves elsewhere by the speculative media. I’m not worried.

  7. I always say this.

what makes you think Wenger have changed of late? Wenger will always be him…ignorant, bargainer, late buyer..and a seller….of his best players…that’s why he may of load some players like ospina, koscielny and nacho….who are all first team players!!!-i don’t mean he will nit never rule out he may sell at least one or two if those…this is Wenger…you all know him…thumb me down for pointing facts…if i lied that messi is signing for arsenal today,–100 likes because you like rumours and hate facts.

  8. @kenyanfan, i pray to God to give you common sense. Dont come here to pour your bitteness for arsene. If you respond like this to a common rumour then i wonder how you would respond if it actually happened.

  9. Let the rumor continue to mill as pundit and media alike was busy doing their usual business but if i may ask, apart from rumor what else is interesting in the transfer period? I love it when clubs, agents, betting company do all they know to get bargain out of either Wenger or Arsenal, in fact something both, for me it’s a statement that we are a force to reckon.
