Arsenal right to spend BIG signing World Cup winner?

Arsenal are going great guns right now, in the Premier League at least. We won’t talk about the disappointments in the Champions League and Capital One cup as long as the Gunners keep firing in the EPL title race.

There are many factors behind the current league success and you have to give Arsene Wenger and the way we are playing for each other as a solid and unified team is hugely important, but you also have to look at some of out outstanding individuals and none has been more impressive, effective and influential than our king of assists Mesut Ozil.

So the news reported by The Mirror about the club being set to offer the Germany international a bumper new contract should be welcomed by Arsenal fans. Ozil has just turned 27-years old and so we do not have to worry about giving him a long term deal and if Arsenal can keep him throughout the peak of his career it could well help us to a lot of trophy success.

I just wonder whether this is really the right time to be talking contracts with Ozil. He already has two-and-a-half years left on the current deal and so it’s not as if there is any great urgency. I suppose a new contract offer could ensure that Ozil feels happy and wanted and that could help to keep his performance level high.

But I think that his form this season is in part a reaction to the criticism he has had since his move to England and I would hate for anything to change that and take some hunger away from him. What do you guys think?
