Arsenal rumours – Isco, Pedro, Gundogan, Van Djik and Souttar

No football for Arsenal until tomorrow but lots of early transfer rumours coming through, although they don’t seem very promising for the Gunners in my opinion, but let’s see what you think?

First off is Ilkay Gundogan, who we have been linked with for some time. The Dortmund star is definitely moving on this summer, but Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc says there is no interest so far. “Our talks came to the conclusion that he won’t extend his contract and will leave in the summer,” Zorc said. “But that depends on what offers land on my table and until now we have received no offers for Gundogan.”

Many Arsenal fans think he would be perfect competition for Francis Coquelin, but we will have to wait and see on that one….

One exciting Arsenal rumour lately has been the possibility of Barcelona’s Pedro coming in, but the Barcelona boss Enrique has made it clear he doesn’t want the Spanish international to go anywhere. “He’s important, a key player for us,” Enrique said. “He’s done what he needs to at all points during the season.

“He’s a great example for his teammates. He’s perfect in training, and whenever he’s needed, he’s there. It’s a pleasure having him.”

So that doesn’t sound like good news for Arsenal either! Perhaps we could instead try to get Real Madrid to sell us Isco? Not likely it seems as the player himself has declared his happiness to be in the Spanish capital. “Changing me is just like changing another,” said Isco. “Those that do not play are happy and it’s normal. When I am happy when I don’t play I will retire from football.

“I am happy with my role in the team and I have played more than I thought, I insist.”

Another dud Arsenal rumour then! And It’s not going to get any better today I’m afraid, as the last two come from the Scotsman, who reckon that Arsenal are going to challenge Tottenham for the signature of Virgil Van Dijk from Celtic. The Dutchman has been linked with us for a couple of years now, but I think we can safely say that he is unlikely to be coming in this transfer window either! The last link is the Dundee United defender John Souttar, who has apparently shown promise this season. Celtic are also aid to be interested and as far as I’m concerned they can have him! It doesn’t take much to look good in Scotland’s SPL nowadays so the likelihood of us buying him are very very low.

So this post seems to be more about who Arsenal WILL NOT buy, but we could still be interested in Gundogan…..

    1. Yes would love to spunk 20mil on an area of the team we’re stacked in. Top idea!

I swear some consider a transfer good as long as the player is a renowned name. Gundogan is superb…….but not needed at all and wouldn’t even make our team, Santi is better and so is Rambo.

  1. I said it many times that we are sort of deep lying playmaker. Jack or Rambo are suppose to do this things, but they’re tending to run with the ball up front rather than make long pass to make quicker counter attack. Arsene has push Santi for this job and he’s doing it superbly along side Coquelin. I’m afraid Santi is a lone wolf out there, and we can imagine if he’s unavailable. Arsenal needs a ready made backup for him to retain our recent football style. One of this “deep lying” rare species is Ilkay Gundogan. So, correction to admin he’s no competitor for Coquelin. Off course we need one more CDM as Coquelin back up, and according to the shortlist it won’t be too hard to find.

    1. Arteta mate. Wenger has been using him as def mid but i think he can play back up to Cazorla also..

  2. PEDRO will be interesting as he is Quick, full of experience (won everything possible), versatile and a great finisher. #SignHimUp

  3. Ozil and Sanchez are
    good players but we
    should have spent first
on a DM. That’s what cost
    us 2 premierships.
The emergence of Coquelin was pure luck
with out which we would be scraping for 4th again.

  4. Just sign another out
    and out stopper DM.
    Schneiderlin will be fine.
Ok he’s not a marquee player
but nor is Coqu in fact apart
    from Sanchez and Ozil our
top X1 is devoid of stars.
Just fear the gaffer will sign
a super star to placate the fans.

    1. Schneirderlin is also not an out an out dm, I think u will find that job falls to wanyama at Southampton. For me replacing arteta flamini diaby and rosicky with schneirderlin and kondogbia to join coquelin would be the best move as all 3 could play together, as well as any of the lining up with ramsey wilshire cazorla or ozil. If we had those 7 fighting for 3 or 4 positions in the midfield that would be pure depth and total quality, add to that the likes of alexis, chamberlain Walcott welbeck and wellington fighting for the wide opinions that would give us 12 players contesting 5 positions. It would also mean the likes of gnabry, zelalem, bielik and even akpom could join hayden in securing a season long loan to really show their potential.

      1. Schneiderlin is a DM, think you’re the one who’s confused. Just because he has more tekkers and passing ability than most Saints midfielders doesn’t in any way mean he’s not a pure DM.

For France, surrounded by superior ballers, he is the deepest midfielder who starts things off and screens the back four. Exactly what he’d do at Arsenal were we to buy him. He is the epitome of what an elite DM is all about, brilliant destroyer AND a touch of class with the ball at his feet.

  5. gundogan would be great but he is a very similar player to coquelin.

we need a cdm who is going to offer something different than coquelin. height, strength, quickness, brute force, aggression, tackling. carvalho and schneiderlin come to mind.

    1. Gundogan is different than Coquelin. He’s a deep lying playmaker. He has great long pass accuracy to trigger pacey counter attack. When Santi is “new” for this job, Ilkay has been doing it routinely for Dortmund along side their CDM.
