Arsenal should go all out to win to win race for this £60m centre-back

Arsenal is one of five Premier League clubs said to be monitoring the progress of Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar, according to a report in The Express.

Joining Arsenal in showing interest in the player are Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea.

The report claims that we sent a scout to watch the young Slovakian in the European 2020 qualifying clash between Wales and Slovakia Sunday afternoon.

For their part, Inter is keen to get the 24-year-old to sign a contract extension at the San Siro and commit his future to the Italian giants.

So, that is the basics, loads of clubs interested and his own club wants to keep hold of him and it is easy to understand why.

He is valued at £60 Million by Inter and judging by his performances he is worth every penny, he is certainly a player we should be going after and it is comforting to know that we have thrown our hat into the ring.

Skriniar is likened to Liverpool icon Martin Škrtel, he is a tough tackler and does not mess about on the ball, he either passes quickly or whacks it up the pitch, he is versatile and can play either centre back, his natural position, or move up as a defensive midfielder.

He is a mainstay in the Inter team and has experience in Europe and on the international stage.

This particular rumour rings very true for me, Skriniar is the exact sort of player we should be keeping an eye on, he is young still, his best years are ahead of him, he is already proven at the highest level and would bring calmness and leadership to the Arenal defence.

Keep an eye on this one, we are definitely interested and I see no reason why we cannot win the race for his signature.

  1. I do not think Arsenal would spend that much money one one player. The only possibility is to get CL places and offload few players .
    CL-25 Million
    Sell Mustafi- 15 Million
    Elemny -10 million

May be if we can get him if that happens

    1. Let’s add up some salaries of players who could or will leave. https://www.spotrac.com/epl/arsenal-f.c/payroll/

      Ozil £18mil a year
      Ramsey £6.2mil
      Elneny £2.6mil
      Welbeck £6.5mil
      Mustafi £4.6mil

Total: £40.5mil – chuck that all onto one young quality attacking mid. Use the champions league and existing transfer money to upgrade on 2 defenders. Replace Welbeck and Elneny from players within the academy. (Nelson, Saka, Maitland Niles).

Alternatively keep Ozil, but play him regular.

    1. can we get boly for sure? after one season? this guy is one of the most rated defenders at the moment in Italy, I would not say no to him.. it’s that 60 mil might be abit high for us no? we need a couple of more players next year for sure 🙂

  2. Completely overpriced and over rated.Did not impress for Slovakia against Wales the other day.in any event we simply cannot afford to spend £50/60m on any individual player.

  3. £60m is the price for a golden area like winger or striker not CB.. Better pay such amount for quality goal scoring winger like pepe, dembele or zaha than CB more worse we have no budget to afford that amount for a single player

    1. No chance of this happening . The reason? Kroenke! Simple as that. Fantasy has its place but not on this usually sensible site.

      1. Could have said the same thing about the Auba deal…
No chance, just spent a record fee on Laca who is a CF, Silent Stan wont allow it.

Is it Silent Stan who says yes or no to a players fee? Or is it the board?

I believe it is the board, the board has enough freedom to spend what they want on a single player but it has to be within the self sustaining concept, if Arsenal want to break their own record 6 months after breaking it to sign a player who fills the same role as the record signing then go ahead…

Make sure Arsenal remain self sustaining in the process.

It isn’t that I want to defend Silent Stan, I just do not believe he puts any effort into us other than enjoying free PR, it is why I constantly include the silent part to his name.

        1. You’re right in that sense, about Stan feeding them a certain amount of line. He’s still a crap owner, he wont even allow us to go into the red, even though we could never be in danger because of the guaranteed windfalls with each season as well as his vast pockets. It is stupid to never dip a toe over the line, it could be the difference between us settling and us getting our priority targets, or us having higher standards, which might add up to a likelier success rate. It was a good point about Auba, but I also doubt that we would spend that amount on a CB. I can’t see us reaching the 40m mark with this position. Might not go past the 35m, even reaching that is me being optimistic.

          1. I would agree, sometimes you need to speculate to accumulate, we make a LOT of money and if us fans seen Arsenal investing in the squad…

Arsenal make a lot of money from our support. Imagine how high it could be if us fans was lining up to throw our money at them, like the fry meme “Take my money!” 😛

As for the CB part, I really have no idea, I have read about Raul when he was at Barca and he didn’t shy from spending but he does appear to be a guy who thinks forward when it comes to spending.

If we could go into the red for a short while then it would be nice to see Arsenal go strong for a top CB, even if it cost us £60 million. I’d like to keep Chambers but Chambers and Mustafi could be sold afterwards to recoup most of it back… We do have a handicap.

        2. Can’t
really see it as you do, I am afraid to say. Yes, he did allow our two top strikrs and that money now spend and with huge wages going out on Ozil and a few others, is all the more reason why he will not go much further in that spending direction. We have now had a full decade plus to see how Kroenke operates and his track record overall would make the actual Scrooge flinch with shame overall. We call Kroenke a Scrooge but Scrooge, if he were not fictional and alive today would be sueing us for libel.

The board, or many of them are actually fans and want glory; KROENKE LOVES ONLY MONEY , OWNERSHIP AND POWER.
