Have Arsenal target’s club accepted his upcoming transfer?

The chances of Ricardo Rodriguez becoming an Arsenal player this summer and joining his Switzerland international team mate Granit Xhaka at the Emirates is looking stronger by the minute. The only things that could stop it happen are if the rumours about Arsene Wenger wanting the talented young left back turn out to be false, or if another club beats Arsenal to the punch.

It certainly seems like the 23-year old Swiss star is ready to leave the Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg after five seasons and over 150 games for them, as a Metro report explains that the German club’s sporting director admitted that their player has made his intentions to move on this summer crystal clear.

Klaus Allofs said, “As we have recently gathered, it was clear. His idea is to leave us.”

Rodriguez, who has been a regular in the Swiss national set up since making his debut for the under 17s back in 2009, started in the side along with Arsenal´s new midfielder Xhaka today and helped them get off to a winning start against Albania.

And any chance of Wolfsburg holding on to their highly rated star or at least making Arsenal or another club pay through the nose for him were dealt a crushing blow this week when the agent of Rodriguez declared that his release clause of less than ·19 million has become active, as we reported in an earlier Just Arsenal post.

With our England international left back Kieran Gibbs apparently ready to move on to get more regular football, is Rodriguez set to be the man to replace him and challenge Nacho Monreal for the first team?

  1. Hope he comes to arsenal. I also wish Vardy agrees to come. I don’t see Wenger spending on Xhaka, Rodriguez then spending 50mill on a cf. We deceive ourselves if we think wenger will spend over 100mill in one window! Vardy is the only cf we can get cheaply. We miss out on him, we put up with giroud for another season
