Arsenal to face Brentford in Carabao Cup – Worst possible draw?

The draw for the Third Round of the Carabao Cup has finally been made and we are set to host Brentford at the Emirates. Everyone would expect this to be an easy fixture but I am not so sure. We are quite friendly with our neighbours and have just sent Josh Da Silva on loan to them, but if you remember, we played them in a behind doors friendly in pre-season at London Colney and lost 2-1.

We didn’t play any first team players in that game and it was a Bernd Leno howler that gave the game to the Bees, and he is likely to be in goal behind our reserves yet again next month.

Also if you take into account that Brentford have lost only one game (1-0 away at Blackburn) in their 7 competitive games so far this season, I could be forgiven for being a little bit worried…..

At least we are not away at Liverpool!

  1. We will have a second string side that will look something like
Leno Lich Holding Mava LB? Welbeck Eddie Iwobi Willock Smith-Rowe +another
Brentford will rest Players no doubt.
How could we not win this game?

  2. A win should be the only possible result when a top Premier League club like Arsenal face Brentford

I know that Arsenal would most likely play their second squad, but a draw would mean Emery still needs a lot of time to instill his system into the players

I believe there would not be a problem, because Arsenal will play at the Emirates

  3. Sorry, Josh Da Silva was not sent on loan, he signed permanently for Brentford when his contract expired after rejecting a new contract offer from Arsenal.

  4. Should have enough players primed and ready to make an impression. Maybe finally Xhaka benched and Torreria to start. Also good game for Guendouzi to play and build some confidence.

Pity AMN not fit; great chance to start in midfield. However it would prob be on left due to injuries. Maybe Smith-Rowr can start in midfield with Torreria and Guendouzi.

  5. Mixture of first team and youth

    ………………..Leno
    Jenkinson…Holding..Mavrp..Monreal
    …………..Eleny ….Xhaka
    Iwobi…Smith-Rowe….Welbeck
    ………………Nketiah.

Bench: Martinez, Lichtsteiner, Sokratis, Wilock , Gilmour, Zelalem, Ozil, Lacazette
Wish we had Nelson and Niles

    1. I’d prefer if Emery starts Lichtsteiner and Torreira, because they need more games to blend in

Xhaka has played in a lot of EPL matches and I think Jenkinson is gonna be sold?

  6. We are going to be up for it take us lightly and we will beat you be warned you are fast turning into West Ham plenty of nice touches but no back bone you have been warned?????

    1. Charlie the bee, am guessing you are a fan of Brentford & you just addressed the fans of Arsenal with that comment of yours but sorry to burst your bubble bro, you guys still have a long road to walk to reach us. Be warned!

  7. we are not sure if Emery will field the first team, a mixed side or the youth….

but it seems that the fans have already decided for him…

  8. Martial offered new contract even though mourinho doesnt like and want him….

real power from their executive vice chairman Eddie….

    we need tough negotiators

  9. better than a premier league side. We’ve got decent 2nd string of players so not too worried about this fixture yet. Let’s just hope no more injuries till then

  10. Worst possible draw???
    @ home against Brentford?
I could think of a few worse than that.

We could still lose though. Anything is possible
    But hopefully we will win.

  11. Brentford a very good footballing team .. Some weakness at the back … If we are moving ahead a mixture of youth and experience should do the trick … Do we have the needed depth of squad. Nope . Can emery get more out of what he has inherited I think so … Will that be enough. Not sure …
