Arsenal to pay £50m for Icardi? Has Wenger lost it?

Judging by the Arsenal transfer rumours about Gonzalo Higuain that were flying around befor the Argentina international completed his mega money move to the champions of Italy Juventus, I doubt very much whether Arsene Wenger would have paid £50 million or much more for his top striker transfer target, so imagine my surprise when I saw the Daily Star reporting that the Frenchman was ready to offer that amount for Mauro Icardi.

The Inter Milan forward is also an Argentina international but unlike Higuain he almost never plays for them and is not even Arsenal’s second choice, or even third if you count our failed bid to sign Jamioe Vardy from Leicester City. The report claims that Wenger is ready to move for Icardi if the much talked about attempt to persuade Lyon to part with Alexandre Lacazette turns out to be yet another disappointment.

This makes even less sense to me, because if he would prefer to sign the French striker why would he not pay the release clause of less than £50 million and get the player he wants instead of paying more for Icardi? Do the people who make up these stories actually pay any attention to what is going on int the real world?
