Arsenal to start Welbeck in crucial Chelsea clash?

One thing you can definitely say about Arsenal after the FA cup thumping of Southampton and as Arsene Wenger prepares for the top of the table clash with Premier League rivals Chelsea this weekend is that the players involved last weekend have given the boss a tough decision on team selection.

We saw some fine and effective performances from the likes of Lucas Perez, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and all of them will be hoping that they have forced their way back into the first team for this potentially pivotal game in the race for the Premier League title. Tomorrow’s EPL match against Watford might come a bit too soon after the cup but everyone should be fresh and fit again for the trip to Stamford Bridge.

For me the player that has the best chance of breaking into the starting XI to face Chelsea is Danny Welbeck, who surprised us all with how sharp he was after such a long spell on the sidelines with injury. Even though it would be an in form Olivier Giroud that missed out if Wellbz was in the team I reckon that Wenger will be strongly considering it.

Danny is also in form and will be buzzing after his FA cup exploits and he does offer the extra pace through the middle that could be crucial in a big away game like this. Leaving Giroud on the bench may seem harsh on the big Frenchman but Arsenal would still have the option to turn to his proven prowess as a super sub if needed and I expect Olivier to start against the Hornets in a game that is likely to be dominated by us.

What would you do Gooners?

  1. I liked Welbz performance on the left, when fit I do like him… just a shame he has been broke for so long 🙁

For me I would like to see Welbz on the left, Theo on the right and Alexis upfront.

If Ozil isn’t fit then go with 2 B2B CM and 1 holding player again. Ox did very well in that role and I would like to see if he can perform again in the next game, a gamble but if he does then it would help win the CM battle.

    1. Against Chelski Arsenal need 11 committed players – do or die – put the Ox in central midfield and drop that lazy luxury Ozil to the bench . A complete waste of money , no commitment, no heart and never tackles or chases back – unfortunately Wenger being Wenger won’t admit it and drop him
