Even though the Arsenal and Chile international star was given some time off after the damaging midweek hammering away to Bayern Munich, which means that he did not train with the rest of the squad yesterday, this does not mean that Alexis Sanchez will not be involved in our FA cup clash with non-league hopefuls Sutton United.
Despite the football media in England trying to suggest that the Chilean flying out of London the day after the Champions League disaster was down to something else, the club revealed that his time off was all planned and was brought on by the striker having to go to Spain to deal with his involvement in a tax fraud case.
So with Arsenal.com reporting the manager’s insistence that he will not be taking this game for granted and will not be making wholesale changes because of the status of our opposition, I think we can safely expect to see Alexis starting the game on Monday evening.
Having said that, I do not think it will be the centre forward role he starts in, because I think this game, which is likely to be a physical one in which the Gunners enjoy the lion’s share of the ball, is perfectly suited to the abilities of our big French forward Olivier Giroud.
Is that how you would go against Sutton? If so who do you think should fill the final forward position on the right? Welbeck, Walcott or the Ox?
