Arsenal transfer rumour round-up – Saponara, Zlatan, Mkhitaryan & Xhaka update

Many reports are circling claiming that we have deals in place, but for me, nothing is concrete until it is announced.

Granit Xhaka has long-been linked with a switch to Arsenal this summer, with personal terms already said to have been agreed. Latest speculation claims we are not willing to meet the asking price of the midfielder, which is supposedly delaying the deal.

Mkhitaryan is another who has been linked with the move since apparently sending family members to look at properties in London, and is now believed to be closing on his desired move. Arsenal are claimed to have held positive talks with his agent Mino Raiola, and the clubs are now working on a deal.

Saponara is a new name to come under the supposed watchful eye of Arsenal, with the Empoli midfielder also attracting interest from Juventus. The 24 year-old is said to be valued at £11.5 Million, but I cant imagine both him and Mkhitaryan could be coming in…

One legend who I believe every Arsenal fan would like to see join our beloved club is Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Swedish superstar is out of contract currently, and is linked with a huge number of destinations. His girlfriend is now said to be key in his decision-making, and she has her heart set on moving to a ‘major city’, ruling out Manchester as a possible destination.

I hope we have at least made him an offer, otherwise he is likely to jet off to the MLS…

Are we looking likely to miss out on Xhaka because we are playing hard-ball? If we continue to barter too much this summer, we are likely to miss out on a number of key targets…

  1. I always read these rumors but never gets too excited until it actually happens. Our major issue is a descent striker. Since world there is an international shortage I am not mentioning world class strikers who bangs goals for fun. We just need a descent finisher. As the likes of Ozila and Cazoral and co will always give minimum 2 goal scoring chances in all matches to our striker with Pace and Quality.
Also If the Ozil needs to score more goals. I believe he has missed at least 7 to 10 very good goal scoring chances. Had he converted 5 of then he would have reached double figures. There is no doubt he needs to work on it as 6 PL goals is really not good enoug from his position as well.
Goals are also dried up from Wing postion, Sanchez did OK but the goals from other side i definitely less then 10.
Although sriker is the biggest problem, my point is overall goals tally also should increase.
Even defenders have also contributed less this season

      1. But these stats suggest otherwise: Goals for:- Man City:71, Tottenham : 69, Leicester: 68, Arsenal: 65. This means we scored three goals less than the champions, four less than the team from which the golden boot winner came from. Man City scored most goals which were six more than Arsenal but came fourth. Arsenal could have matched Leicester goals tally but still finish second, at best 4 points behind the champions. We could have matched Tottenham goals tally but still finish second, at best 2 points behind the champions. The only way we could mathematically have finished champions was to match Man City’s goals tally. That way we would have converted at most 6 drawn matches into wins thus finishing two points above Leicester.

From the above analysis it is apparent that it is not just about scoring goals but their distribution as well. Leicester with their 1-0 wins managed to spread their goals across a significant number of matches thereby making them champions. By the way Leicester conceded the same number of goals as Arsenal, as such its 3 goal advantage by itself cannot explain why they are champions. Only consistent goal distribution across matches could explain why they are champions. This leads to the next question. Do you need a 30 goals striker to achieve that, or you need goals to come from all players?

A 30 goals striker gives you a chance of scoring in as many matches as possible, however, this has not always been the case. A hatrick striker can score 30 goals in less than 20 games, leaving you needing other players to score in more than 18 matches. The Man City scenario being the case in point. In the past two seasons they have been up there in terms of goals scored but could not win the league, because they would score 5 or 6 in one game but fail to score one goal which matters in another match.

It is therefore clear that while a prolific striker makes it easier in the scoring department, other factors also need to come right for a team to achieve good goal distribution across matches. other players need to chip in with goals as well, particularly in difficult matches where opposing teams defend deep.

  2. Trust Arsenal to under bid for Xhaka,Borussia Monchengladbach want 30mil but we’ve only offered 19,1mil as an opening offer,Arsenal need to start respecting selling clubs if we want to add decent players in this window

  3. Anyone considered Mane from Southampton? Anytime i watch him play he looks so dangerous and he would be a better forward than any striker we have at the club. He is proven in the premier league and it would not break the bank to get him.
I think he would be a success at Arsenal!

    1. @pco
Mane can blow hot or cold sometimes. But I still think dude is dangerous when he’s on key…

  4. Who is talking of Mane? He doesn’t play Arsenal brand of Football. Same problem with Alexis Sanchez. we could have maybe done better if Alexis had played more with his team mates rather than wanting to steal d Headlines….. I think no Player like Ozil… I Love his footballing Philosophy.
pls get us Xhaka, Zlatan Mhatchiklatan… Lol.

    1. How dare u!?!? Alexis is our best player by a mile…ozil needs players like alexis to shine…players who can put the ball on the net and ein matches…cr7 doesnt give too much the ball..but u are continuinh talking about “our philosophy”…”our philosophy” like u said has been pass the ball without any idea and without winning any mayor throphy for the last 12 years…so let alexis do what he do…he can lose balls, but he scores, he creates, he fights, give us beautifull moments of football, and better than all, win us games…a team with 11 ozil doesnt win games…with 11 alexis yes…so stop demanding more ozils and to criticate alexis…it is not a coincidence that ozil always looks for alexis, its because he knows alexis is the man who can transform him from the most creative player to the assist king, and again, better, eho can help him to win games (i love ozil and he is a winner, dont missundertand me)..so: pls, stop to talk nonsense

  5. Am I the only supporter who doesn’t want Zlatan?

His age, his massive ego, his enormous wage demands and all his goals scored in the most pathetic, one team league in Europe (major footballing nations).

Did you see his performance against Man City, he hardly got a sniff of the ball, how would he get on in the most competitive league in the world. Worth the gamble, not in my book!

  6. Typical examples are Morgan, Danny Drinkwater and Okazaki all of Leicester city. These guys score important goals when Jemie Vardy and Rihad Mahrez were not showing up.
