Arsenal transfer rumour round-up – Sturridge, Draxler, Gimenez and possible exits

We are less than six weeks away from the January transfer window, and we thought we’d bring you a little insight into the latest Arsenal gossip. We refuse to overload you with pure speculation, but you never know which of these stories will prove to be true.

Three players who are being linked with the exit door at present are Jack Wilshere, Mathieu Debuchy and Lucas Perez. The latter was the most surprising, given he only joined the club in the summer and had been beginning to impress before falling foul of injury.

The Spaniard’s agent has moved to rubbish the loan links, stating that his client is only interested in Arsenal. “He’s not playing because he is injured,” his agent told Italian website Calcio Mercato.

“He has no intention of leaving, Arsenal and Wenger are very happy with him. Maybe try asking them!

“He’s only thinking about Arsenal at the moment.”

Debuchy is also being linked with a move, having found himself as the club’s third choice right-back this season behind both Hector Bellerin and Carl Jenkinson. The Frenchman is said to be eagerly wanted by Roma and Galatasaray in January, and I’m pretty sure only a serious injury to Bellerin or Jenkinson could scupper his exit.

Wilshere is also being linked with a permanent move, although that story will have no end until his loan with Bournemouth is completed come the end of the season. AC Milan are hoping to lure him to Italy, although a switch to Italy already fell through in the summer.

Another player who has been linked with the Rossoneri is Julian Draxler. The German international has fallen out with his club, as confirmed by Wolfsburg’s general manager, and he has also conceded that the situation could result in his exit. Arsenal have been linked with him for a number of seasons, with Wenger believed to be a long-term admirer.

The two others linked with potential moves to the Emirates are also in tough situations with their clubs. Daniel Sturridge has found himself out of favour under Jurgen Klopp this term, and has been urged to think about his career in January.

Atletico Madrid’s highly rated defender Jose Gimenez is said to be pushing to leave his current club this winter, with a keenness to land regular first-team action. Spanish newspapers tend to be worse than our English ones (as hard as that can be to believe), and I would take this with a pinch of salt.

Can you imagine any of these moves proving to be true?

  1. I can’t see Wenger buying or selling anyone at all unless we get a very very serious injury.
But whatever happens Debuchy and Sanogo must go out on loan and see if they can still remember how to play the game.
And Akpom must go on loan, with Lucas and Welbeck on their way back when will he ever get a game?
