Arsenal v Brentford Carabao Cup preview, Line-up and betting prediction – Welbeck to start?

Arsenal play host to Brentford in today’s Carabao Cup encounter, with a number of changes expected to be made for the home side.

The Gunners come into the match on the back of four straight Premier League wins, and will be looking to continue that form against tonight’s lower league opposition, but they will be expected to play some squad players also.

Brentford should in no way be taken lightly, after enjoying a bright start to the current Championship campaign, but it remains to be seen whether they will also allow some fringe or squad members a run-out.

Our side do have some injury issues, with Sokratis joining the likes of Mavropanos, Laurent Koscielny and Jenkinson on the sidelines.

Predicted Arsenal XI

Leno
Lichtsteiner Holding Mustafi Monreal
Torreira Elneny Smith-Rowe
Mkhitaryan Welbeck Iwobi

This team should have more than enough in it to win the match, although I wouldn’t mind seeing one of Lacazette or Aubameyang on the pitch just to further build up their confidence, and give us that star power in the match.

Eddie Nketieh could well find himself in the line-up tonight, and you could argue that he should be ahead of Welbeck for a central role in the future, and playing Welbeck there would only be to please the former United man.

As much as I’d prefer EN to start, I feel Welbz will definitely be in there, but maybe both could line-up with Henrikh left out instead.

Does this team have enough to coast to victory over the Bees?

  1. Is my boy Niles back yet? Made me angry when he picked that injure against City. Kid needs to play as much as possible and avoid injuries as the time for him to shine is now.

    1. think he was slated to make a return in November. If he’s back in training like Sue says, then maybe we get him back even quicker, good news 😀

  2. Surely Smith Rowe, Willock & Nketiah will play. I really hope Kolasinac does too! It’s a shame we’re not being shown live! I’ll have to sit through Chelsea/Liverpool ?

        1. Hi John and thanks for the info. I’ve just been on their site and it asks for a sign up with Email for a free trial. What happens after the free trial. I presume it then costs something?

  3. My prediction:

    ………………………Leno
    Lichtsteiner . Mustafi . Holding . Kolasinac
    ………….Guendouzi ……. Elneny
    Rowe …………..Mkhitaryan …………..Iwobi
    …………………….Welbeck

It will be interesting to see the twins play (Guendouzi and Elneny)

  4. Comes what may in the game tonight in the Carabao Cup at the Ems between Arsenal and Brentford, the Bees from Brentford FC will not get their poisonous stings injected into any Gunner on the field of play playing for Arsenal. For, all Gunners will put on their anti-Bees sting gear to prevent any Bee injecting their poisons into them during the game. And will therefore render any efforts so made in the game by the Bees to inject their venom into the Gunners so to paralyze them ineffective and obsolete.

And the Gunners will take the 8ees by surprise in their strides as they fly about on the Ems plying pitch by shooting a gun shot loaded with gunpowder into their mist to down at least 5 of them as spoils of the Carabao Cup battle on the night to the Gunners and they will exhibit them to us the Gooners to marvel at. Hmmm.

At the end of the proceedings at the Ems tonight in the Carabao Cup match between Arsenal and Brentford, the scoreline at fulltime plus added time read: Arsenal 5-0 Brentford.
