Arsenal WILL rest Alexis Sanchez but NOT YET

I have just been reading a preview of the Arsenal home clash with Southampton in the Premier League tomorrow evening and the Talksport report suggests that this game could give Arsene Wenger the perfect opportunity to give a rest to the Chile international striker Alexis Sanchez, but I must say that I disagree.

Not with the general premise that he could do with a rest after looking a bit jaded in the last few games since coming back from his long haul travels during the international break, although Alexis does strike me as super fit and one of those players like Messi and Ronaldo that is happy to play all the time.

I just think that this game is not the right one in which to drop such a key player. The Saints may be coming in to the game on the back of a heavy defeat and without their main man Morgan Schneiderlin through injury, but they are far from a one man team and they have the best defence in the Premier League.

As Olivier Giroud is only just back, he is yet to really establish an on pitch understanding with Danny Welbeck, so I think we need the Chilean for his dribbling skills, closing down and motivating influence. With Theo Walcott close to a comeback, it will not be long before Alexis can sit one out, perhaps away to Galatasaray next week.

For now, we must take Southampton very seriously and play our strongest side and that means Alexis in from the start. Do you agree?

  1. Our new “mr arsenal” alexis sanchez will once again be a key factor for us against a tough southampton team! This is indeed a tricky game and the gunners must remain very focus for this one and “do not switch off” at any time! Lets go gunners! Best of luck! Coyg!

  2. alexis-love this man. give him what he wants.

    rest? check
    captaincy? check
my missus? never liked her cooking anyway

    1. He is hungry, play him. Some players, ala Messi, Ronaldo play each and every game for their club and do you see them complaining? Do you see them needing a rest? We need more Sanchez’s in the team, hard working and relentless.

      1. They don’t get rested, no. But they actually have a medical team to keep them fit, seemingly unlike us.

  3. “THE SPECIALIST IN FAILURE” …….can’t help but wonder, How did Mou arrive at such a nick for wenger? ……it Looks so real…. L()L

  4. I wouldn’t rest Alexis until Theo gets back because then we would still have Theo and Ox on the flanks and either of Welbz or Olivier up front. However if Sanchez got injured tomorrow (God forbid) then we would all be blaming Wenger for not resting him and burning him out. It’s a tricky one… But I’d definitely start him tomorrow and take him off at the hour mark if we’re perhaps 2-0 up for instance.

  5. He did look fatigued the last couple of games, but I think it was the jet lag. And since all of the teams we needed to lose on Tuesday won, we need him on the pitch.

  6. If we had a quality squad we could rotate.
But we have several players who are
not good enough or badly injury prone.
We should have sold Walcott Wilshere
Rosicky + Diaby 2 years ago.
This summer we should have sold Podolski and Ryo.
Now we are stuck with Sanogo and Campbell too.
8 players we could do without. Then we could have bought
2 more quality defenders and two midfielders and saved wages.

    1. Are you mad or just daft, Davidnz? Why would we sell Rosicky OR Walcott? Walcott was NOT quite ready to play, yet Roy Hodgson brought him along with the England team where he got hurt instead of letting him stay at Arsenal and continue with his rehab and conditioning. Rosicky hasn’t been injury prone since his first season with us. In fact, Rosicky is the club’s grandpa and still one of the best ACM’s in the league. Ryo has been loaned out, so I’m not sure why we would sell him. Podolski is the best finisher that we have at the club, Wenger simply won’t play him. Campbell doesn’t need to be sold either, he simply needs game time. We should have loaned him to another EPL team for the first half of the season, and then looked at extending his loan depending on transfers and injuries come January. The kid has everything needed to success at Arsenal except EPL experience, and Wenger’s trust.

I do think that we should sell Wilshere, and we would have had plenty of clubs to sell him to as well. Honestly, why not through Gibbs and Ramsey onto that transfer list too, since they’re both injury prone and easily replaceable? Sell Rosicky and Walcott, what a joke.

    2. @davidnz, which drug are you on? take alexis away then walcott is our most dengerous player, a match winner, put alexis on still walcott is our fastest, one of the few direct players we have. and he is just 25, why on the earth are gonna sell him?

  7. We are now 5 points behind UTD with a worse GD.
If we lose to Southampton and if UTD win at the weekend we will be looking at an 8 point deficit.
Wasn’t UTD meant to be a club in crisis???

    1. By thw same logic arsenal can win 3-0 today and close the gap to 2 points with a better goal difference. More still man u can lose in the weekend and arsenal will and go above man u. The bottom line is you are being pessimistic for no apparent reason.
