Arsenal’s 5 star Ozil gets MOTM for stunning Euro 2016 display

It may well have felt like Deja Vu to the Arsenal and Germany international star Mesut Ozil at Euro 2016 yesterday, because despite the attacking midfielder producing an awesome and bewildering display of passing and creative football that had Northern Ireland chasing shadows in France, his national side Germany could only manage to win by the narrowest of margins. JUst like a lot of last season with Arsenal Ozil might well have been wondering what he has to do to get his side a heavy win.

A big reason for that was the brilliant performance in goal by Michael McGovern who produced a string of great saves to help the Irish into the next round on goal difference as one of the best third placed teams. That not enough to earn the keeper the Man of the Match award though, as Arsenal.com are reporting that the honour went to our German play maker. He was also given a full five star rating by the stats website Squawka.com as was his team mate Toni Kroos.

Stats do not tell the whole story of course and they do not take into account the brilliance and vision of individual bits of play but as well as oozing class the Gunner dominated the stats with an amazing pass success rate of almost 99 percent. When you are trying to unlock a defence that is a scarcely believable stat.

Ozil created the most chances and made the most key passes as well as having four shots on goal and Arsenal fans will be hoping to see our number 11 in that sort of form when the Premier League season kicks off again in a couple of months.

  1. He’s always been in that sort of form for us but our striker(s) always Let’s him down. That’s obviously a problem the Germans are facing too.

      1. He is fasting. He even said he’d rather not play football ever again than not fast during the month of Ramadan.

  2. Good performance by Ozil and on a other day it would have been 5-0 to Germany had they converted the chances. Wenger looks like he isn’t really into the transfer market now rather is only looking through the teams. Spurs have added another powerful midfielder in their ranks. Arsenal definitely have to look at teams and their lineups which shows each team in the Euros have dangerous striker and Arsenal need one. Again players like Milik,Lukaku,Icardi are good targets.
