Arsenal concern as Cazorla keen on Spain return

Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla has revealed that he would like to play for Villarreal again in the future.

The 31 year-old is nearing a return from injury at present, having fallen foul of injury back in November, and will be keen to prove his fitness in time to be picked for the European Championships.

Cazorla is asking for permission to travel to Anfield next Thursday to watch his former side Villarreal take on Liverpool in the Europa League semi-final’s second leg, and revealed he could see himself playing for the club he spent eight years with.

“I would not rule out returning to Villarreal [at some point],” he said.

“Everyone knows how special that club is for me. If I get permission from my club I will be attending the second leg at Anfield, as another ‘groguet’ [‘yellow’] supporter.”

The Spain international has one more year left to run on his current contract, and with him being 32 years-of-age at its end, he may well wish to return home at the end of next season.

Cazorla has been a key player for our club over the past couple of seasons, and his injury was a hard pill to swallow mid-way through the current campaign. Hopefully he will be able to return in time to help us cement our place within the top four.

I wouldn’t begrudge him a return to Spain, especially as his footballing career is nearing its final years, and I also hope he will recover fully from his achilles injury without any issues.

Do you think Cazorla will get another contract with us? How big a player will he be next year?

  1. Santi’s off then, with Ozil and Alexis in no rush to sign new contracts…

Bayern, UCL qualification?, and promises will determine all. Maybe they would also stick around if AW goes..?

    Interesting times..

  2. santis 32 …bloody hell.
he looks like my son…u know the one that doesnt exist

he was a huge loss this season.
who will replace him is it to be elneny an his coq

  3. wenger saying the club is moving in right direction ya right no premier league, can’t even reach quaters of champions league , 2 domestic cups in 12 years if this is forward i m afraid more bad times ahead of us with him incharge

  4. no player is bigger than arsenal football club . if a player wants to leave us then the very best of luck to them in the future . would you want to stay under the present climate . i think , given the chance , i would be off to pastures new.players come and go but arsenal football club will always be here .

  5. santi deserves to sign a final 2 year deal as he will be important in the next two seasons as the most senior outfield player with arteta and rosicky departing. then he is free to go villareal. Alternitivley if he decides to go there are players like pjanic from roma who would be an excellent replacement.

    speaking of villareal ;
1)19 yo left back ADRIAN MARIN would make a quality monreal understudy. he has 9 games this season and has been excellent defensivley. in the past we have always kept an eye out for young left backs from laliga eg gaya, grimaldo

    2) french keeper ARIOLA 23yo is on loan from psg and has been emense this season. he has a tall order geting past trapp and sirigu so they may be intrested in allowing him a transfer. it would also be a good replacement for sczezny if he is sold

  6. Santi’s 30+………..can’t hold him against his will to return home

[Bearing in mind..His best years are soon over and he’d start picking up injuries every here and there]

doesn’t mean i dn’t rate him….. He’s been one of Arsenal’s finest of recent….but there’s no ignoring the fact that times are changing and Age beckons…

Why do we now want Arteta or flamini gone?…. U find out why

Would Love for him [CazorLa] to stay at least one more season, but if he chooses the Highway, then it’s a warm goodbye!

  7. This was a huge season for him.
Our little magician who has always cared for our club.
We could have won the league no doubt had he stayed fit.
But now that he is aging he is becoming more fragile and less reliable.Especially now considering he is a b2b which is a very demanding position.
We need to find a suitable heir for this legend

    1. We don’t need Isco unless Ozil is leaving. We cannot afford to waste money on Cam. Sign striker, winger, DM and CB

      1. Isco is more suited to CM than CAM, his playing style is carbon copy of Cazorla’s and Santi also used to play CAM in Spain

  8. Icardi could be available next season since Inter Milan will not play in UCL next season. Ibrahimovic is 35, Lewandowski and Benzema don’t want to join us and are in 60-70 m range very expensive. Benzema won’t be sold by Real Madrid either. Other options Lukaku will cost 50 m very expensive. I would say Icardi is the most realistic target but will greedy board and Wenger spend 35 m on him?
