Arsenal concern as Cazorla keen on Spain return

Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla has revealed that he would like to play for Villarreal again in the future.

The 31 year-old is nearing a return from injury at present, having fallen foul of injury back in November, and will be keen to prove his fitness in time to be picked for the European Championships.

Cazorla is asking for permission to travel to Anfield next Thursday to watch his former side Villarreal take on Liverpool in the Europa League semi-final’s second leg, and revealed he could see himself playing for the club he spent eight years with.

“I would not rule out returning to Villarreal [at some point],” he said.

“Everyone knows how special that club is for me. If I get permission from my club I will be attending the second leg at Anfield, as another ‘groguet’ [‘yellow’] supporter.”

The Spain international has one more year left to run on his current contract, and with him being 32 years-of-age at its end, he may well wish to return home at the end of next season.

Cazorla has been a key player for our club over the past couple of seasons, and his injury was a hard pill to swallow mid-way through the current campaign. Hopefully he will be able to return in time to help us cement our place within the top four.

I wouldn’t begrudge him a return to Spain, especially as his footballing career is nearing its final years, and I also hope he will recover fully from his achilles injury without any issues.

Do you think Cazorla will get another contract with us? How big a player will he be next year?
