Arsenal’s new Rising Stars 1 – Bukayo Saka (Plus Video)

Like most Arsenal fans we are always bored during the international breaks, so I am going to take this opportunity to take a look of some of our latest academy prospects that seem to be being fast-tracked into the Gunners starting XI on a regular basis. One of the most impressive so far has been Bukayo Saka who looks like the young winger we have always wanted.

Born in 2001 in London to Nigerian parents, Saka was brought through the Hale End Academy and soon after his 17th birthday he was given his first professional contract and he has never looked back. He is predominantly a left winger although can play anywhere in the front three. Bukayo made 34 appearances across all competitions last season, scoring 14 and assisting 12, and earned the right to train with the first team. In his first big game against Eintracht Frankfurt he scored his first goal and provided two assists in a man of the match performance.

So that’s the background, now let’s have a look at this great compilation of the skills he has shown just this season….

  1. I liked his determination in the field, although his performances were boosted by his left wing post. I don’t think he would be that good if he plays on the right side

Other left-footed attackers such as Ozil and Pepe have to learn from this boy’s work rate. Ozil and Pepe are either just chasing the stats that make them look good (assists/ take-ons) or maybe they are too naive

Waiting for a perfect through ball or dribbling are only good if those attempts are successful, but stealing the ball from the opponents and pressurizing them are more effective to break the opposition’s defense. Messi did this to get past his opponents and Sanchez followed his methods, hence I’d like to see Pepe doing it as well

    1. Eeeerrm, Saka can play as a right winger perfectly. I’m surprised for the past one month now, you’ve not typed the word “Inverted Winger” because you were obsessed with it.
You’re aware Saka would be an Inverted winger on the RW right?

  2. Hoping that Emery decides to slot Laca in behind Auba when he returns so that we see more of this lad (and Martinelli) rather than waste Auba out on the left again and hamper their development.

This front four will be bloody.

    Saka, Lacazette, Martinelli..

    Guendouzi, Torreira..

    Tierney, Luiz, Holding, Bellerin..

Subs – Pépé, Willock, Ceballos, Chambers..

I see hassling, pressure and high pressing from this line up.

  4. Saka’s very intellectual with his close control, quick feet, versatile and mentally strong. That night he made a mess out of Ashly Young and could’ve sent him off if the referee was a little bit fair
