Arsenal enter the 2026/27 Premier League season in a position they have not experienced for more than two decades – as defending champions.
Mikel Arteta finally guided the Gunners back to the summit of English football last season, but retaining the trophy could prove an even greater challenge.

When that forecast was made, Arsenal’s summer transfer business had barely begun.
Arteta’s squad has subsequently been strengthened ahead of the new campaign, with the Gunners looking to build on last season rather than simply relying on the group that delivered the title.
That makes the original prediction particularly interesting.
The supercomputer was already backing Arsenal before the summer window had properly taken shape. Now Arteta heads into the new season with greater options as he attempts to make it consecutive Premier League titles. What has changed is the expectation surrounding Arsenal.
For several seasons, Arteta’s side were trying to hunt down the champions. This time they are the team everyone else wants to catch.
Ultimately, Arsenal’s title defence will be decided on the pitch rather than by supercomputers, prediction markets or pre-season forecasts.
But there are reasons for confidence.
Arsenal have just proved they can finish above every other team in England, and the squad has been strengthened since the computer model originally backed them to do it again.
The challenge now is turning those early predictions into another Premier League title.
