Clean sheet takes Arsenal closer to a Top Four spot

Arsenal won at Southampton in the League yeaterday for the first time since 2003 but it was a dour match and the Gunners had to fight the Saints every inch of the way. We ended up winning 2-0 but we could easily have been two goals behind by half-time if it wasn’t for another two brilliant saves from Manolo Gabbiadini and Nathan Redmond by Petr Cech.

The big Number One was pleased that he managed to keep Arsenal in the game, and also in the running for a Top Four place. “Of course I’m happy to contribute,” Cech said on Arsenal.com. “I thought it was their best spell – they had two chances and when you keep a clean sheet, it’s been very difficult for them to break us.

“When you have that feeling that one goal will do it, you play with more confidence.

“I think it will give us a hope, because if we keep the pressure on the other teams, maybe they will have an unlucky game or drop points somewhere.

“We need to make sure we are ready to take advantage of that.

“We concentrate on our games, we go game-by-game and we have to win all of them to give ourselves a chance. Then we will see what happens.”

It seemed like an impossible task just a couple of weeks ago, but wins against two bogey teams in Man United and Southampton will give us even more confidence when we go to Stoke this weekend.

Could Wenger really pull the rabbit out of the hat again?

  2. Given the situation we found ourselves i think it’s unfair to give Arsene a new contract. No matter what happens at the end of the season i’ll never give Wenger any chance to continue at the helms of affair at Arsenal.

  4. Our defence is much more solid with this new formation. If we find a few players who make the most of it we could be a team reborn.

    1. Agreed. The one player that stands out as not adding to it is Gibbs. His defensive part is poor and his ability to attack the left flank is also poor. The reason he is out there is he kicks with his left and most of that is played back or square. Since Montreal has moved now to back in the three at defence our left side is weak. Why Wenger changed it against Spurs as we were on a roll is woefull. CB

Who needs Top four, when it’s all bout money for the board , R16 humiliation and pride for Mr Potato head?

    .
If missing out on Top 4 ensures sanity returns to this club, then SO BE IT!

    1. As much as i understand the thumb downs on your comment, it just strikes me as the best that should happen to the club just to learn some hard lessons cos if it’s not for anything the fans will be so quick to forget all the mishaps and the “WengerOut” campaign.
That arrogant man as well as the members of the board should be taught a lesson so that they can spring up with new ideas come next season.

  6. GroundHog says that the Wenger trophy will be ours on the last day of the season. ?⚪️??
