Club Director admits that Arsenal are scouting Russian international star

It was revealed by an agent last week that Arsene Wenger had asked him to watch the CSKA Moscow midfielder Aleksandr Golovin whilst at the Confederations Cup where he was one of Russia’s best players. Golovin is only 21 but he is highly respected and already has 15 full caps for his country. It is believed that Wenger has been carefully watching his progress over the last few years and has always admired his skill.

The agent, Sandor Varga also said that he thought an Arsenal bid for Golovin was imminent and that the Gunners would be willing to pay between £10m and £15m for him, and today it is being reported that the CSKA general director, Roman Babaev, has admitted that Arsenal have indeed been scouting Golovin, but they are yet to make an official approach.

When asked directly about the interest from Arsenal, Babaev revealed: “No, CSKA did not receive an offer from Arsenal for Golovin,”

“I admit that the London club scouts viewed Alekandr’s Confederations Cup. He was one of the best parts of our team.

“We are unconcerned about this information, and Alekandre as well.”

Obviously Arsenal’s top target right now is Thomas Lemar, but perhaps Wenger is keeping his options open with Monaco demanding incredible amounts for their stars at the moment. So maybe Golovin could yet arrive, and he may well be a great bargain at that price….

  1. That’s fine if Wenger wants to make a £10 million gamble for the future
I suspect he is for future as he is 21 years old

But he is Not good enough now if this is going to be our only CM signing.
That’s why he is worth £10 million
We need someone better than Ramsey, Wilshere, Xhaka, Ox
    someone close to Cazorla’s level
ie. Brozovic, Goretzka, Keita, Mario, Koke, Niguez

    1. Goretska could be that guy if the following players were issued there walking papers.

      Perez
      Schez
      Campbell
      Jenkinson
      Debuchy

      1. Why not Goretzka and Golovin? Wilshare is not in contention anymore, Ramsey and Ox, I am not sure anymore if we can keep both for long, at least 1 at least will run down his contract. Ox plays different positions too. Goretzka can be an immediate replacement, long term, and Golovin as backup. He is class, and played well for an average Russian team in Confed Cup

      2. You almost feel sorry for jenko and campbell. Jenko was impressive for west ham and joel had a good world cup. Should have shipped them both of to better clubs after their respective performances if we weren’t going to play them

  2. Goretza or Seri is a must. Those two is the type of midfielder we need, we have enough Golovins that are better, plus Brozovic is not up to Arsenal standard.

    1. Seri I very much doubt, many interested parties means there will be bidding war and player will have a big call

  3. AW won’t spend much more money end of. He needs to get rid of a fair few players. We do need a CB DM AM keeper and if the little man goes replace him

  4. I do not think there is a need for CB, Holding, Beilik and Chambers are aging nicely, Kos has about 3 years left in him, Must still learning, GaBs still here, Mert have couple more games in the legs, Monnreal and Kolasonic can stand in, that is basically 9 CBs. I think arsenal should sign Aymen and the russian, both could be loan to clubs in the champion ship or EPL, ensure game time and base on january we carry them in to freshen the midfield.

But i think we should keep talents like those close to the club and they are good investment
