Club Director admits that Arsenal are scouting Russian international star

It was revealed by an agent last week that Arsene Wenger had asked him to watch the CSKA Moscow midfielder Aleksandr Golovin whilst at the Confederations Cup where he was one of Russia’s best players. Golovin is only 21 but he is highly respected and already has 15 full caps for his country. It is believed that Wenger has been carefully watching his progress over the last few years and has always admired his skill.

The agent, Sandor Varga also said that he thought an Arsenal bid for Golovin was imminent and that the Gunners would be willing to pay between £10m and £15m for him, and today it is being reported that the CSKA general director, Roman Babaev, has admitted that Arsenal have indeed been scouting Golovin, but they are yet to make an official approach.

When asked directly about the interest from Arsenal, Babaev revealed: “No, CSKA did not receive an offer from Arsenal for Golovin,”

“I admit that the London club scouts viewed Alekandr’s Confederations Cup. He was one of the best parts of our team.

“We are unconcerned about this information, and Alekandre as well.”

Obviously Arsenal’s top target right now is Thomas Lemar, but perhaps Wenger is keeping his options open with Monaco demanding incredible amounts for their stars at the moment. So maybe Golovin could yet arrive, and he may well be a great bargain at that price….
