Confirmed team for Burnley away – Emery makes big changes

Most people think that Unai Emery is not concerned about our last game of the season, but for me that is all the more reason for us to put out a strong attacking side and go for goals goals goals!

Why not when there is still the slimmest chance we could leapfrog the Spuds into the Top Four. How sweet would that be? So I earlier predicted an attacking line-up to start the game. This was my line-up….

Leno
Maitland-Niles.. Nacho.. Sokratis.. Mustafi.. Kolasinac
Xhaka.. Torreira
Ozil
Lacazette.. Aubameyang

Obviously Emery will be choosing a completely different side as on most matchdays this season, and his official line-up is….

So obviously I was completely wrong, and Willock, Mavropanos, Elneny, Litchsteiner and Mhki come in to start the game.

No Lacazette, no Ozil, no Torreira, oh well, lets hope we still get the three points….

  3. Emery should know that if we finish 6th we would have extra matches to play in the Europa league.
    That might not be too bad and we can overlook those matches and concentrate solely on the premier league next seas

  4. I almost got the lineup spot on! Thank you for listening Emery.

    I guess Auba only starts because of the very slim chance of the Golden Boot, but I am not happy with his inclusion. Let’s just pray he doesn’t get injured. Other than that, the rest of the lineup makes perfect sense for a dead fixture, when the club also has it’s biggest game in 13 years, just around the corner.

    Hopefully a final appearance for most of the players starting today.

    1. @ThirdManJW – You were indeed close with the predicted line-up. However for all arsenal intents and purposes let’s both hope your prediction for the match (result) is way way off the mark 😀

      1. I agree! I said 2-1 Burnley, but could be a lot worse given that lineup. Let’s pray for 0-5 Arsenal, and Spurs 0-3 Everton.

        1. Strongest team should have been played ,coming 6 th as no benefits for next season .
          If we lose the final we will then have extra games next season in the EL ,it’s bad enough that we have been in this sh1t competition for the last 2 years

You wanted a whole reserve team to play and to rest all our first teamers and I told you any changes would be few. 7 of 11 starters were clearly first team players. Hardly a reserve team, so I do not see why you are crowing. You also said we should take it easy. Wrong there too! Moving the goal posts on what you ACTUALLY said. I’d try politics ; you will beat home there.

  6. should’ve played youth over players that have no value to us anymore. No point in Elneny or Licht playing at all. This is their last games for us. Give another youth player a chance. You never know if you don’t try.

    1. Personally I would’ve put out a stronger lineup, but if Emery is going the resting route he should’ve played more youth instead of deadwood that aren’t even more talented .

Have to agree … Still find emery’s choices with what he has are too often bizarre and his inability to find a best 11 too close to the lost years of the late wenger era … Slightly better home performances against lower teams and we would have something to cheer about on last day of season … As it is am sitting here wishing the best for city!!!

      Emery should have included more young players in the team, no reason to risk key players.

    1. let’s be honest, they’re brilliant to watch. Im flipping between Arsenal game and City. Watching much more of City game b/c ours is pretty scrappy. One shot from us, Elneny playing. Entertaining end of the season for the league at least. One goal can decide the title now.

      1. I watched our game for 10 mins and switched over 2! The City game is much better! It reminds me of how we used to play with the likes of Nasri, Fabregas, v. Persie, Wilshere and Song.

        1. Agree. The way they move the ball is unmatched. Arsenal, currently searching for a footballing identity again. Hopefully we will find ours again.

    1. We all knew we were going to concede in that moment. Always need two goals to win away. Just happy Auba is scoring and looking sharp for UEL finals.

  21. We need a winger get diogo jota from wolves, young, tricky winger who scares defender plus affordable.

  23. Congrats Man City for winning the league back to back. We need to spend big. A central defender is top priority. Then a box to box midfielder and a Winger. We should go all out for either De ligt or Koulibaly. Then Doucoure and finally NAbil Fekir. We need top quality signings before we can compete with Man City and Liverpool. And Emery needs to be bold next season. Play a 433 system. An effective and ruthless 433 system. Front 3 of Aubameyang, Lacazette and Fekir. Midfield of Torrera, Doucoure and Ozil/Mkhitaryan. A defence of De ligt Holding Monreal and Bellerin. Recall Ospina back from loan.

  24. Priority for next season should be getting a top defender. We conceeded 51 goals and scored 73 goals. Liverpool conceeded 22 goals. We have a lot of work as far as defending is concerned. We need a strong and energetic midfielder(Doucoure). We need to add a strong and energetic defender. We have to spend big on the defence. De ligt/Koulibaly. Our defending was poor this season.You cannot win the league with that kind of defence we have presently

I second you and i think we need to overhaul a complete defence need atleast one centre back of top quality be it de ligt or koulibaly or manolas or anyone else.. need a rock solid left back like robertson who is an engine so need to sign a leftback of high stamina, work rate, leadership like tierny or alaba or porto’s leftback or benfica’s left back or ajax’s leftback all are excellent defenders plus a right back of similar engine, workrate and who can actually track back like wan bissaka, ricardo perreira etc.. Need a box to box midfielder like doccoure, n’dombele etc and a winger like zaha or even hakim ziyach who has skills plus good stamina
