Have Arsenal missed a trick with Szczesny’s contract?

The Arsenal keeper, Wojciech Szczesny, who has spent the current season on loan with Roma in Italy, has attacked the media for their recent claims.

The Polish international has started 20 of his temporary side’s 24 league matches this term, and could be offered the chance to stay with the Giallorossi on a permanent basis.

Szczesny’s current Arsenal contract is reported to be set to expire at the end of the season, and at 25 years-old, will likely have a number of potential suitors to choose from should he fail to agree an extension with the North-London side in the near future.

One source had claimed that Roma would not be looking to make him an offer however, speculating a preference for Internacional’s 23 year-old shotstopper Alisson instead, whom they were claimed to be ‘in talks’ with.

Later, news sources claimed that Roma had now changed their mind about whether to try and land the Arsenal loanee, with alternative target Alisson keen to stay in his homeland, in order to secure a place in Brazil’s Olympic squad.

Szczesny has now slammed the media circus for their whirlwind of claims, by taking to his official Twitter account. “Gotta love the media, reporting on three completely different stories regarding my future in a space of 24 hours. “Saying there’s been a change of heart, U-turn and turnaround – the only U-turn there’s ever been is in your rubbish reporting skills.
“#Rubbishatyourjob From Rome with love, Wojciech,” He typed.

I am rather surprised to see that we have allowed Sczcesny’s contract to run into it’s final six months, at the risk of losing him on a free transfer in the coming summer. Surely despite being our number three goalkeeper, he could have easily commanded £5 Million at the beginning of the season or at least a couple of mill in January?

Our club are known for making good financial decisions, so either SkySports and other sources are wrong about his contract expiry… Or Wenger and the board are slipping…
