Coquelin is indispensable to Arsenal – and is still improving!

It is true that Arsenal got extremely lucky when our injury problems last season forced Arsene Wenger to bring Francis Coquelin back to the squad last Christmas, and it is no coincidence that the Gunners improved drastically once he was introduced as our holding midfielder.

“He continues to improve defensively in his positional play and also offensively, you can see he has more confidence,” said the manager.

“His passing is quick and sharp, his decision-making is quick and he gets out of tight situations well. That is very important in the middle of the park. He’s also more available and [available] more quickly when our defenders have the ball. He blossoms well.

“When you’re a footballer you need to feel the confidence around you but after that I would say the main progress is decided by the player. Why? Because through his intelligence, he analyses what happened to him during the game and if he makes mistakes his intelligence helps him to analyse the situation and not repeat the same mistake in the next game by finding a solution.

“I would say to do that you need confidence, but the main progress is decided by the player.”

He has been brilliant in the holding position since he arrived, but as Wenger rightly pointed out, his distribution to the forwards has come on leaps an bounds. Can you imagine if he keeps on improving over the next few seasons. Le Coq has got the makings of an Arsenal legend!

  1. Francis coquelin just keeps on excelling for arsenal fc week by week! He is just awesome and a key important player for us “no doubt”! Coyg!

  2. AW shall turn to one of the Bender to reinforce DM position in January. don’t think there is any chance to get Krychowiak or Carvalho in Jan. and we have Bielik who is the next on the line.

  3. Arsenal are breaking jinx after jinx this season. Is this a sign of something? First Chelsea then Man U,Bayern and now Swansea. Guys when we complete the double over Bayern and routine over Spurs,I will go to sleep. Kindly wake me up in new year.

  4. I see Le coq in EURO2016 for France.I have never doubted his ability especially after 3-4 matches since returning from his loan spell at Charlton.

Am very certain, given a run of games Joel Campbell is going to suprise many of us.Arsenal just makes me happy and happy.

  5. We all know his defensive duties are on point. His attacking has grown in leaps and bounds though. Against Everton there’s a time he dribbled past three players in their own half.
Yesterday he made a peach of a long pass across the pitch to the left for Alexis to get onto.
At this rate I see a captain’s armband on him in future years.

  6. Arsenal needs not DM better and older than Le Coq, this will hinder his development. Arsenal needs and 17-year old DM to give Le Coq a run of his money
