Could Arsenal replace Alexis with this young Swiss international?

So it is now widely accepted by Arsenal fans that Alexis Sanchez will definitely not be at the Emirates next season, and maybe not even past January, but who are we going to get in to replace him? You could say that we will still have Alexandre Lacazette, Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott, Alex Iwobi and maybe even Eddie Nketiah already at the club and ready to cover the loss of our superstar Chilean but can you really see Arsenal fans accepting that? Chuba Akpom and Joel Cambell are out of contract next season so I doubt that they will be part of the equation…

So obviously there have been many Arsenal rumours about possible Alexis replacements, but the latest concerns the young Cameroonian-born striker Dimitri Oberlin, who is also a Switzerland U21 international. The 20-year-old has impressed everyone whilst on loan at Basel from Red Bull Salzburg and has reportedly attracted a great deal of interest from many of Europe’s top sides, including Arsenal and Man United apparently.

Oberlin’s record of six goals in 17 games in all competitions is good for a player that is rreally just a reservve, but he has managed three goals in four Champions League games, including two against Benfica in a 5-0 win, and came on as a late sub to score the second against CSKA Moscow. He is blessed with blistering pace in attack, but some people hhave found him to be frustrating, but his current Basel coach Raphael Wicky certainly doesn’t agree. “I don’t think [he is frustrating],” he told Basler Zeitung. “Because no matter how Dimi plays, always and everywhere in the box he offers me one thing: a high degree of intensity.

“Players like Oberlin don’t always know themselves what will happen next. They act instinctively. That makes them unpredictable, this sometimes causes nerves, but above all it is a strength. Dimitri will become calmer and clearer as he grows with experience.”

He certainly sounds promising, and as Basel have an agreement to buy him this summer for just 3.5m Euros at the end of his loan period, they could be set for a very tidy profit in quick time. But could this youngster come in and be an immediate replacement ffor Alexis Sanchez?

  1. a reserve player to replace Alexis???? lmao
but maybe he can replace Walcott
those of fans that still want to see Walcott in the squad, ask yourself, how much do we miss Oxlade Chamberlain? Walcott is much worse. get rid of him in January and get this young swiss guy

    1. I want to answer your question , so here goes: I miss Ox as much as I miss the flu and I would miss Walcott as much as I miss Joey Barton, Adabayor, Nasri, Cashley Hole, Almunia, Denilson, Mugabe, Col. Gaddafi, Tony Bliar, Trump and my old toenails combined. The only time I would not miss Walcott were if I was driving a steam roller. I have never understood why our club just throws away five and a half million pounds (his wages) every year for nothing in return. To me it is a complete mystery why this cowardly shirker still manages to con new contracts regularly. Perhaps he is Wenger’s boyfriend! That may seem unlikely but I cannot think of any other reason more likely as to why he stays here.
