Debuchy and Giroud want out but where will Arsenal strengthen in January?

Arsene Wenger is not renowned for making many additions to his Arsenal side in the January transfer window, but he may be forced to bring in some new faces if both Olivier Giroud and Mathieu Debuchy get their wish to depart for first team football in the New Year.

Debuchy nearly went back to Ligue 1 in the summer, with Wenger’s blessing but it fell through, and he is adamant that he is hoping to get some offers after proving hhis fitness in six Cup games for the Gunners. “I want to leave, to find a new challenge in January. The fact I’m playing well will give me opportunities,” Debuchy said. “We’ll see if there are good opportunities in the transfer window. I’m open.”

Giroud also nearly joined Everton, and has also admitted that he is keen to leave if the right offer comes along.  Giroud said: “If I wasn’t able to leave this summer, it was because of the opportunities I had.

“It wouldn’t have been good to leave for leaving’s sake, but it’s certain that eventually, even in January, I’m going to have to ask myself the question again.

“It won’t be easy to find the right solution and take the right decision, but we’ll look at the opportunities.”

Wenger has already stated that he doesn’t want to lose any players, and he has now come out and admitted that any new arrivals are unlikely next month.

“You do not imagine that we will change 10 players in January,” Wenger told beIN Sports. “It’s 90% that it’s the same squad.

“If we can find some additions to strengthen our squad we will do it, but we have a big squad. I think we have players of quality. We need just to stick together and fight as we can until the end of the season. I believe that we have to be faithful to the players we have at the moment.”

Would Wenger really stop Debuchy and Giroud from leaving if a good offer came in? And what other positions do you think that Arsenal need strengthening in if we delve into the market?

  1. Debuchy’s arsenal career has been a nightmare! I thought he was doing alright until he did his shoulder in & it’s been down the pan ever since, can’t blame him for wanting out

  2. We should replace them with younger hungry players if they decide to leave
Debuchy>pavard is one of the best right back in Germany at the moment and is only 20 milenstat would have surely been scouring him. Also Mitchel weisser 23y would be massive competition for bellerin

Giroud could be replaced by timo Werner (Leipzig)who is arguably the most valuable young striker around who isn’t already at a big team.

    1. Good players jermain but as you know Wenger only signs players from France. Contacts all over Europe ? you’re having a laugh

  3. Wenger is clueless. He was not prepared that every player under him wants to just leave. His only love children are ramse bale and theo. other players if chance given will leave.

  4. By far the most effective way we can strenghen in January is TO SACK WENGER! That is not just rhetoric , it is the plain truth!

  5. January will be a looooong month. There will be daily (or 10 times a day) rumors about Benzema, Draxler, Lemar, Van Dijk etc and Wenger will transfer a British kid from (let’s say) Norwich U18.

  6. “If we can find some additions to strengthen our squad we will do it, but we have a big squad. I think we have players of quality. We need just to stick together and fight as we can until the end of the season. I believe that we have to be faithful to the players we have at the moment.”

Can anybody remember a transfer window when Wenger hasn’t said something to that effect? It’s always the same… Same old, same old… Another 1-and-a-half seasons minimum…

    So it’s sooooooooo frustrating.

  7. All these transfer rumours are just pointless, we know that Wenger will not get anybody in even if he loses a couple of players. He’s said himself he is 90% likely not to add to the squad which really means he is not looking at all. Everybody should do themselves a favour and not get stressed out over the January window. We will be linked with and reportedly interested and talking to literally loads of players but it ain’t gonna happen.
