Defensive Arsenal and Chelsea target eyeing exit door

Kalidou Koulibaly has talked up a summer move from Napoli, whilst confirming interest in his signature, with Arsenal and Chelsea both linked.

The defender has impressed since joining from Genk in 2014, and is believed to have attracted a host of interest in his signature.

Arsenal are claimed to be eyeing a move for the centre-back, with both Gabriel Paulista and Per Mertesacker failing to earn a regular starting role alongside Laurent Koscielny this season.

The Senegal international could be set to put himself in the shop window, having claimed that his club are ‘interested in making money’, and also stating that their is no new contract likely to be offered to him.

He said: ‘Big clubs want to sign me and there is no sign of a renewal with Napoli.

‘The negotiations for a contract extension have stalled and they never wanted to discuss with us.

‘No, I have not talked to [Antonio Conte] but that may be soon. If nothing happens at Napoli, I will start to have contact with other clubs.

‘The game In England could be suitable for me but I like Italy, I do not press for a transfer but I hope to sign a renewal with Napoli or we proceed to other solutions.

‘Napoli also wants to make money.’

Chelsea are reported to be leading the chase for his signature at present, which could be due to the manager’s preference to play three centre-backs in his favoured formation, while John Terry is also expected to endure a more limited role with the club next year.

Arsenal can offer Champions League football on the other hand, and should look a more attractive prospect this summer.

Should we try and beat Chelsea to the punch and make an early offer for the defender? Or is there better options available?
